The Operations function…
The Logistics team ensure a robust, efficient, cost effective, flexible and sustainable route to market for all of News UKs newspaper and magazine products. The team builds and adapts our delivery functions that allow our products to go via, Wholesale, DTR (Direct to Retail) or DTC (Direct to Consumer) dependant on the requirement and operates a full range of ancillary Logistics services e.g. warehousing, pick and pack, customer service etc. The function also looks to enable sustainable commercial growth through selling its services to third party customers.
Sub Function: Wholesale & Logistics Services…
Develop effective plans across all logistics functions to ensure an accurate, on-time, feasible and cost effective network. Ensure service levels are developed and exceeded through close and detailed monitoring of performance and effective action based resolution to issues identified. To operate an effective, proactive and robust customer interface to providing accurate, timely and consistent returns processing, billing and customer management. Closely working with the team to identify network optimisation opportunities and developing a continuous improvement approach across the dept. To build positive, supportive and productive working relationships within the team but also with other News UK teams, business partners and customers. To ensure the team is cross functional and has a strong teamwork ethic throughout.
Summary of the Role
The main purpose of this role is to ensure communications and distribution paperwork are collated in an accurate and timely manner on a daily basis enabling a smooth transition between the day and night teams.
The position requires close liaison with Operations, Wholesale, Production Planning and Peterborough along with all business partners and 3rd party commitments. To build positive, supportive and productive working relationships within the team but also with other News UK teams, business partners and customers. A key support to the Planning function ensuring all modes of transport are correctly reflected on the nightly SAP paperwork along with communication to all key stakeholders whilst also supporting efficiencies through continued optimisation.
Key requirements of the role include:
• General coordination for all administration attributed to the Planning Team (assisting both Primary and DTC)
• SAP super user managing the general upkeep of the SAP system carrying out all changes and any required testing and future enhancements
• Introduce new technology and / or processes to ensure continuous improvementData collation of all transport activity
• Liaise with Production Planning and joint venture business partners to collate of product specifications and communicate to Wholesale on a daily basis
• Liaise with Peterborough ensuring all system data is aligned and coordinated
• Liaise with Wholesale Team to understand and communicate and changes to the planLiaise with Night Operations team to communicate and handover the nightly operations plan
• Work with wider planning team to understand impacts and dependencies across all distribution channels
• Optimise Primary and DTC networks to provide on-going efficiencies through optimisation
• Forge collaborative and productive working relationships with other logistics teams
• Help develop and maintain close working practises with Logistics Operations, News Printers, and our Business Partners to optimise and improve logistics processes and provide business focus
• Compliance to ISO and Workplace organisation standards

Functional and Professional Knowledge
• Timely management and control of all daily activities
• Knowledge of newspaper / magazine wholesaling
• Excellent Knowledge of SAP system
• Knowledge of SAP Distribution systems
• Experience of transport planning process and KPIs
• Advanced level in Excel and Word packages
• Ability to communicate with and assist third party service providers
Business Expertise
• An understanding of how the role fits within and collaborates with the wider Logistics and Operations functions
• Knowledge of the newspaper / magazine supply chain or similar is essential.

• Is a strong communicator who can exchange information and ideas effectively in a concise and logical way.

• Assists in developing a positive haulier relationship with regard to the Primary Distribution Operation.
