Summary of role:
• Ensure efficient & effective management of all the activity in scope
• Lead continuous improvement efforts in terms of process, technology & organization, referencing external best practices as appropriate
• Lead & manage a high performing, motivated cash management team
Main activities/responsibilities:
• Manage the activities in the running the Cash Management team. This includes establishing goals for the team, developing work schedules, back up procedures, managing staffing requirements to ensure coverage and dealing with escalations as necessary.
• Work alongside the team to ensure work is completed as expected including dealing with more complex activities and escalations.
• Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders to maximize customer service and meet performance management targets, including regular stakeholder feed-back meetings after major deliverables, e.g. month end, forecast submissions.
• Lead, coach, train and develop team so they can proactively carry out their role to the highest possible standard. This includes recruitment, technical/system training, facilitating career development opportunities and identifying/acting on any motivation issues to retain staff.
• Ensure team members have the appropriate skills, supporting tools and technologies to enable them to deliver a differentiated customer service.
• Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and simplification. Innovate solutions so the team can operate in an efficient, consistent, repeatable and cost effective manner.
• Lead the team efficiently and effectively and ensure processes are simple, straightforward and value adding to PFS & Pearson Finance overall.
• Develop and monitor team performance to ensure Service Level Agreements are met.
• Manage performance of the team against differentiated service levels and targets including performance of individuals and teams on a regular basis and take corrective actions.
• Ensure all team deliverables are of high quality and submitted on time
• Ensure all submissions into corporate systems align to stakeholder (FD) expectations
• Ensure all processes are kept well-documented
• Manage successful transition of activities from Pearson teams into PFS
• Manage the impact of changes to Pearson systems (eg TEP) on processes and team.
Technical activities/responsibilities:
• Operating the treasury workstation daily to obtain bank transaction and balance information from the company’s bank providers. By having thorough technical knowledge of the workstation in order to provide critical IT-type maintenance, thereby ensuring continued operation of a critical system.
• Reviewing and analyzing bank reports for accuracy and suspicious activity. Preparing daily spreadsheets and reports detailing cash activity. Disseminating reports to management and business units to assist in tracking cash flow performance against forecasted and budgeted amounts.
• Preparing month-end reports used as support for cash journal entries. Having the ability to modify and add reporting and journal entries to account for new activity.
• Liaising between banks and functional areas including Accounts Receivable/Payable, Corporate Accounting, and business units, with responsibility for resolving bank issues.
• Review and approve SAP Royalty ACH payment runs. Communicate with Royalties on any issues with process between RAS, SAP and bank. Review bank ACH reporting for returns, bank account detail corrections and communicate information to Royalty Dept.
• Review cash management team activity in relation to tracking and reconciling credit card sales activity for merchant accounts for Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, and PayPal sales. Prepare and send reports to BPO for recording of credit card fees during the monthly close. Prepare ad-hoc credit card sales/fees analyses.
• Preparation and oversee team activity in the bank fee accrual account analysis. Preparing analyses of bank services utilized and associated pricing. Preparing certain KPI analyses for key bank activities, including check and EFT disbursements, lockbox and other collections activities.
• Compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, as well as internal controls, policies, procedures surrounding cash management procedures.

• Delivery of all work to agreed performance management targets
• Process improvement over time including simplification and standardization
Qualifications
Educated to degree level
Professional Accounting Qualification not considered necessary
Candidate should have extensive Finance experience as a Team Lead of Transactional Operation, within a Shared Service function, with structured metrics in place.
