What's the role?
We are seeking a seasoned Economist to provide lead coverage of the Middle East. You'll be reporting in to the Chief Economist for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. You will need to provide quick and insightful analysis on economic events to a sophisticated financial audience, create economic forecasts further the team’s research on important themes.
You will be tasked with generating timely analysis about economic data, policy, and financial markets, as well in-depth research on longer-term trends and risks and write primers for the countries you cover. Our goal is to deliver pithy, insightful content for our client base which is distributed over the terminal. You should be someone who can bring to bear their experience of working for a financial firm or policy institution to provide crisp analysis and forecasts, informed by extensive country/regional knowledge.
We’ll trust you to:
• Rapidly interpret and communicate the impact of economic events and data on global financial markets.
• Demonstrate a knack for verbal, visual, and written communication, delivering clear and compelling analysis to Bloomberg's broad audience
• Build thoughtful quantitative forecasts for selected economies in the Middle East Region
• Be a passionate teammate who sees the benefits of collaboration. This is crucial as you will work with other economists and economics editors to produce content
• Exhibit a high level ability to use Excel, or any other statistical package, to crunch and display data, including the ability to create sophisticated charts
• Be comfortable speaking on TV and in front of large audiences
You’ll need to have:
• A deep understanding of the Middle East from a macroeconomic and financial markets perspective is required, and experience tracking developments at a regional level or in the financial sector would be an advantage. Deep knowledge of the Saudi Arabian economy is highly preferable
• A strong professional background in macroeconomics
• A graduate degree or equivalent in economics, international economics, PhD or equivalent experience is preferred
