The Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for providing administrative and editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief and to the editorial staff at large when needed.
Candidates should possess a zeal for detail, the ability to multitask efficiently, superior written and verbal skills, and a demonstrated interest in journalism and travel writing.
This position presents a unique opportunity to work at a fast-paced, multiplatform media company, and to work closely with Traveler’s Editor-in-Chief. The successful candidate may be called on to transcribe an interview with the US Ambassador to Spain one week, pitch a Snapchat or Facebook Live story idea at a social media meeting the next, and help plan a trip to Iran the following. In between, he or she will certainly arrange conference calls, book travel, and help get the Editor from point A to point B.
General responsibilities include:
Provide administrative support to the Editor-in-Chief, including:
• Answering phone callsCalendar management, including coordinating and supporting the Editor-in-Chief’s meeting and event schedule
• Booking and coordination of all aspects of travel
• Managing high-volume email communication, tracking and responding to key industry connections
• Coordinating various staff meetings
• Attending editorial meetings
• Managing expenses
Provide editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief, including:
• Occasional research for pieces, transcription
• Assisting with interview or presentation preparation
• Potential to contribute to the magazine, website, video and social media teams when time allows
Requirements:
• College Degree
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail with ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to anticipate needs and offer extreme follow-through
• Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Enthusiasm for travel and the industry
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
