DESCRIPTION:
The News Editor will be responsible for creating a wide variety of written and video content for GameSpot. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the News Editor will be tasked with making quick turnaround, high impact editorial content. In addition to writing news stories and monitoring the overall flow of news on the site, other tasks will include attending industry events, peer editing of other GameSpot stories, assisting with scripts for videos, and other non-writing tasks (such as previews/features/reviews) as needed.
The News Editor will create compelling content for GameSpot's global audience that is in line with the site's editorial standards and practices, and will liaise directly with the site's global content teams. The News Editor will be an adept writer, have a keen copy-editing eye, have a flair for creating interesting headlines, but will also be equally confident in front of the camera. While the role primarily focuses on video game content, strong knowledge of pop culture films and movies is necessary. The post will involve occasional trips to New York to coordinate with the East Coast content team directly.
Examples of tasks:
General news reporting covering AAA games and other key topics of interest for the GameSpot audience
Attending industry events for coverage purposes
Peer editing editorial content
Features, previews, reviews, and other content
General event coverage
Formulating/scripting/appearing in videos
QUALIFICATIONS:
5 years + experience in games journalism
Established track record of writing compelling and accurate games content
High standards of editorial excellence
Can successfully work autonomously and within small teams
Can work across organizational boundaries
Passion for video games
Must successfully pass a background check
In addition, CBS will be guided by applicable federal, state and local laws when considering for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories.
