Hearst Digital Media is seeking a full-time Deputy Editor, Branded Content Studio. This editor will be responsible for top-editing all digital custom content the Studio creates in partnership with advertisers to run on all our digital properties, including ELLE.com, MarieClaire.com, Esquire.com, GoodHousekeeping.com, and more. The Deputy Editor should be a digitally-astute generalist with experience editing beauty, fashion and lifestyle as well as demonstrated thought-leadership in the branded content space. This editor should be expert at editing and shaping stories that perform, thinking creatively, and working across departments to bring ambitious branded stories to market.
Job Description
This position will report to the Director of the Branded Content Studio. You will work closely with all the editors as well as the photo and art team in the Content Studio to ensure Hearst’s branded stories, galleries and social posts meet or surpass the quality of non-branded editorial. You will also work in close partnership with the editorial, sales and marketing teams to come up with sellable ideas that meet clients' goals and resonate with readers.
Responsibilities:
• Top-edit branded stories about beauty, fashion, food and human interest topics, ensuring all content meets the standards of the advertiser as well as adheres to the voice and approach of the Hearst affiliated site
• Offer guidance to editors, pushing them to learn and deliver the best possible copy
• Use site analytics and digital behavioral trends to shape and edit copy
• Propose new ideas, packaging, writers and visual concepts to continually elevate our content
• Collaborate with sales and marketing to brainstorm and create new content programs for clients
• Ensure the tone and presentation of our branded stories are in lockstep with the sites’ continual editorial evolution
• Represent Hearst branded content internally and in the industry when needed
Requirements:
• Experience as a senior-level editor in a fast-paced digital environment
• Minimum 8 years editorial experience, including but not limited to beauty and fashion
• Demonstrated thought-leadership in the branded-content space
• Deftness with words—you roll up your sleeves to make stories the best they can be
• Strong instincts regarding what readers want and need
• Strong familiarity with analytics tools like Chartbeat and Omniture and the ability to recognize performance patterns and adapt content to meet them
• Experience participating in client-facing discussions
