Role purpose:
Creation and development of our products and services to time, quality and cost ensuring that they deliver the intended learning outcomes
Main accountabilities:
Content Development
● Contribute to product design to ensure products and services are fit for
purpose, e.g. reading content from audience's point of view with an
understanding of context and intended learner outcomes and propose
amendments required as necessary e.g. understanding templates and
capabilities of Pearson content authoring tools to ensure optimisation in
their use to deliver learning objectives and pedagogy.
● Quality Assurance: At the various steps through content production (e.g.
copyedit / activity brief / proofread / screen check) ensure quality is
maintained. In particular, assess quality and completeness of ‘final
manuscript’ to ensure 'Right First Time' criteria.
● Work with the Senior Rights & Permissions Analyst to ensure all third party
textual content in manuscript is identified, appropriate for use, and cleared
in line with Global R&P policies
Content Workflows and Delivery
● Working with content creation tools, e.g. QuAD, XML templates
Use content tools to create new content and make changes, assist authors
and teams on use of content creation tools, interpret business
requirements and influence development of template portfolio, adhering to
Global Standards such as accessibility
● Working with content management and workflow tools, e.g. Alfresco
Use Pearson standard content management and work in progress tools,
support content delivery team to set up appropriate processes for projects,
influence and inform workflow strategies and ensure business needs are
captured through a process of continuous improvement. Engage with and
influence the implementation of any new Pearson enterprise solutions
relevant to the workflows and delivery of UK Schools portfolio.
● Working with Content Delivery Team, adhere to supplier strategy, briefing
and QA, e.g. Publishing Services Companies (PSCs), freelancers
Carry out quality assurance and ensure that vendors and thirdparty
suppliers are supported with strong briefs and appropriate tools and
influence supplier decisions
● Project management: business case, budget and schedule awareness
● Assist with product definition ahead of formal approval
● Manage content dependencies such as platform integration, content
readiness for professional development or marketing, by understanding
content processes (e.g. ingestion to platforms) and communicating with
wider team members.
Service Management
● Contribute to identifying requirements, escalate issues to platform team,
coordinate response based on feedback from the market, point of
escalation for customer queries, manage content correction as a result of
customer feedback
● Efficacy framework: gather evidence
Pearson’s efficacy framework: involvement in evidence gathering,
contribute to scoping expected learner outcomes, interpret analytics to
inform product definition
Market knowledge and insight
● Gather and apply insights to products and services through regular contact
with customers; Contribute to specific market research activities driven by
Product Management
Author management and commissioning
● May identify, evaluate, select, commission and retain key authors,
consultants and other key stakeholders who will contribute to Pearson's
success
● May brief authors, negotiate terms that are to mutual benefit and align
with Pearson's contract standards, communicate and agree schedules and
expectations
● Ensure feedback to authors/consultants is timely and clear and that
content delivered meets the brief and delivers identified learner outcomes
Qualifications
• Experience of researching, commissioning and delivering products and services for the UK schools' market, both print and digital
• Excellent knowledge of the needs of teachers and learners and the ability to create products and services that meet those needs competitively
• Strong communication and project management skills
• Experience of managing suppliers
Essential skills
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in developing educational content that really works in the classroom, with strong publishing experience and/or knowledge of the secondary education sector.
Desirable skills
Teaching or classroom experience is an advantage (but not essential)
