Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal seeks a journalist and digital strategist for a junior position on its growing Audience Development team. This newsroom position will play a key role in guiding strategy to inform news and content strategy. This person will work on cross-departmental initiatives to achieve audience engagement and growth.
The ideal candidate should be forward-thinking about the future of news distribution, discovery, and consumption. This person should have experience implementing innovative strategies and disseminating digital publishing best practices. The candidate should be able to quickly shift and advance our practices in an evolving digital landscape.
The Junior Audience Development Associate will:
• Work with Audience team to identify audience growth, search, social media, and content partnerships opportunities.
• Support Audience Development Manager in creating and executing strategies for distribution products, including conferences, newsletters and podcasts
• Monitor real time traffic and social data to support editorial efforts
• Create and disseminate SEO and publishing best practices guidance
• Work with Audience Development Manager to identify growth opportunities across existing and new platforms
Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience working within an audience development team for a digital publisher preferred
• Experience working alongside editorial, product, and business teams in a pressurised environment preferred
• Familiarity with data analytics tools, including Omniture or Google Analytics, Parse.ly or Chartbeat, social analytics tools
• Demonstrated expertise in engagement across all social platforms (Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.)
• Comfortable analyzing and presenting data to stakeholders and actioning against data analysis
• Knowledge of all acquisition channels (SEO, social media, direct, emails, etc.)
• Personable, flexible, and able to work under pressure.
