Summary of Internship
National Geographic Society is seeking a Research and Marketing Intern to join and support our Education Grants team. The intern will be responsible for assisting in the refining of our education grants program, which is still in its first year, through application of research about education issues and trends in grant giving to educators. The intern will also collect data about our grant-funded projects from the first quarter 2017—analytics that will provide evidence of numbers served, types of educational activities, etc. The intern will also help us plan for targeted recruitment to new audiences, and he or she will also help us spread the word about education grants and grant-funded projects through social media, newsletters, and other media.
Five Principal Learning Responsibilities
1. Learn how to use National Geographic Library resources for research and grants software for compiling grant data on education grant applications and grantees (25%)
2. Hone skills in compiling and analyzing data to help staff (a) determine where applicant recruitment efforts should be expended and (b) to begin a database of analytics from education grant funded activities (students reached, learning events offered, etc.). (25%)
3. Expand understand of key issues and thought leadership in education. (15%)
4. Deepen understanding of grant-funded projects in order to seek opportunities for sharing stories (15%)
5. Enhance communication skills related to social media, newsletters, etc., to help staff promote education grants to target audiences. (20%)
Related Field of Study Required
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in lens-specific area and/or education
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Ability to work well with others and independently as needed
• Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills.
Eligibility
Candidate must be enrolled at an accredited College or University at the time of application.
Internship Program Start and End Dates
• Start Date: Monday, June 5, 2017
• End Date: Friday, August 11, 2017
