Job Purpose:
Under the direction of the General Manager—the Operations Manager is responsible for oversight of production management functions and work centers that include, but are not limited to: Imaging/platemaking, press, packaging, and building services during the assigned shift. Performance accountability includes: Production during assigned shift. Will have input on annual budgeting; monthly / quarterly expense estimates (flash). Responsible for Documenting equipment issues and making sure maintenance & repairs are taking place. Will perform staff training and development & will do performance reviews. Ensure OSHA & EPA compliance; product quality; on-time performance; commercial print relations; and customer service. The primary objective is to consistently execute efficient operations to achieve & maintain on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, operational safety, and planned profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary areas of focus will be the pressroom and platemaking. Daily monitoring of production goals against deadlines including Packaging is a requirement. Works a flexible schedule as needed to address operations needs and special projects as assigned.

• OSHA Compliance/Safety:
o Ensure staff works in a safe manner, and consistently utilize required safety equipment:
- Verify department manager and supervisors maintain ergonomic work practices
- Complete required annual OSHA safety training programs with help from other management:
Lockout/Tag-out, Hazardous Communications, Personal Protective Equipment, Hearing Conservation, Blood Borne Pathogens, Forklift.
- Ensure all safety documents are filled out and posted in compliance with state and federal laws
- Verify all machine safety-guards are installed, functioning properly, and in use
- Ongoing housekeeping to maintain neat and organized work spaces.
- Promote top-of-mind safety awareness. 5%
Communications:
Provide timely & accurate reports and information to the local operations team & GPS regional management. Immediately notify the General Manager of the following circumstances: - Operations fall one hour behind schedule - Potential hard-down equipment failures - Major product quality or production errors - OSHA, EPA or other regulatory inspection / audit requests - Safety hazards - All accidents & injuries - Serious equipment damage.

Requirements:
Education/Certification Requirements
• High school diploma or GED equivalent. Associate / Bachelor operations, management, or business degree preferred. Experience Required or Preferred
• Minimum ten years newspaper operations management (or similar field) experience. Specialized Knowledge Required or Preferred
• Lean production / Worksmart fundamentals
• Site specific CTP / Press / Packaging equipment & systems
• Generally accepted accounted principles
• Financial Accounting and Reporting Manual Universal Skills and Traits Preferred (i.e., excellent written or verbal communication skills; ability to work autonomously; self-starter; etc.)
• English language fluency: Speaking, reading & writing
• Proficient verbal & written communication skills
