The Marketing Events Team have a remit to provide a comprehensive central service of event and project management to the UK marketing team for Pearson UK. This includes the Primary, Secondary, BTEC and Apprenticeship, Work-Based Learning and Higher Education Services businesses. This ranges from assessing the appropriateness of events in a given strategy, planning and delivering an event, and measuring its effectiveness against set objectives and delivering lead prospects to the business.
The Marketing Events Team consists of 5 members working across the London and Oxford sites. The role will be pre-dominantly based in the London Office but there will be the requirement for travel to the other Pearson offices as required in order to deliver the event portfolio. There will also be the requirement for some evening work and UK travel to deliver events.
This role will report into the Head of Marketing Events. It is a 12-month maternity cover contract. The successful candidate will have a busy and varied portfolio of work, with account management responsibilities for assigned portfolios. They will be expected to work independently, or lead a team, planning, delivering and evaluating a range of high profile and large scales events and exhibitions, which support the marketing strategies, generating lead opportunities to the business.
This role is predominantly an operational role but an understanding of how to maximise ROI at events, together with an interest in marketing and branding is required. You will be able to incorporate a mix of media at your events, with a particular focus on how social media and online platforms can be used in the event mix, whilst ensuring product and service knowledge and key messages are adhered to throughout the process
In addition, the Senior Marketing Events Executive, will be expected to contribute to raising the profile of the Marketing Events Team across Pearson UK; to further embed working practices and continually look for opportunities to innovate the teams ways of working.
There is no line management responsibility attached to this role however some exposure to managing teams of people on projects would be desirable as there may be some requirement to lead Marketing Events Executives (on larger projects) and any freelance staff.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organisation skills and have a flawless attention to detail to manage multiple concurrent tasks with accuracy and care. You will be both internal and external customer focused and have passion to deliver a great customer experience at events. You will have a natural ability to build relationships, together with strong communication and writing skills to engage clients and suppliers in a consistently professional manner. You will be self-motivated and able to manage the workload independently but possess good interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and senior leaders at all levels across the business. You will be able to:
• Work in conjunction with the Marketing Managers to identify the most effective channels of marketing for a given event campaign, including e-marketing, direct mail, social media channels and contributing to the development of the marketing and branding strategy in line with the Pearson processes and guidelines. Ensure the process is managed with relevant agencies and effectiveness analysed and evaluated.
• Work with the Head of Marketing Events, Marketing Events Manager and internal customers in an advisory and research role, helping to formulate viable plans with clear objectives and budget proposals
• respond positively to the changing environment and effectively adapt plans to meet the new objectives
• Demonstrate an understanding of external factors that need to be considered when planning events
• be confident when discussing ideas and projects with a range of colleagues and Senior Stakeholders across the organisation
• Contribute and deliver ideas and projects to improve the performance of the Marketing Events Team and project groups
• work independently and as part of a team, being accountable for decision making, liaising with manager and colleagues where appropriate
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate and provide experience in:
• delivering all aspects of event management from initial planning to delivery
• budget management experience
• being organised, with the ability to juggle and prioritise multiple projects
• working with 3rd party suppliers including production / AV, venue finding agencies and other event suppliers
• event marketing, including social media and event branding
• building and maintaining excellent cross company relationships, establishing virtual project teams where required
• providing excellent stakeholder and client management to internal customers within a busy and changing environment, with the ability to be flexible and adapt/change as required.
• undertaking research and event team administration as required
• using a wide range of planning tools and documents to support the event management process including:
• preparing event briefs, working with teams to create viable plans and event objectives
• creating and managing budgets and other financial administration as required
• creating project plans and timelines with regular tracking
• providing ongoing project management and event logistics support and regular updates on project progress as defined in the project meetings and in line with the core services provided by the event team
• developing programmes for Pearson Led Conferences and events
• preparing and circulating staff and speaker briefings
• chairing project planning meetings, preparing agenda's and minutes
• liaising with and preparing internal and external speaker briefings
• writing tender and briefing documents for production / stand design / venue finding / branding quotations and conducting interviews with suppliers as required
• delegate liaison and management
• logistics for attendance including travel and accommodation (where
• applicable)
• liaising with 3rd party suppliers including venue finding agencies, production companies, stand contractors, exhibition organisers and other event suppliers as required, managing the relationship, adhering to the procurement process and ensuring best value and high quality output
• conducting site visits to venues
• conducting on site staff briefings and handovers as required, including on site event support where applicable
• tracking, evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of marketing events, conducting debrief meetings, preparing evaluation reports and post event analysis and recommendations for future planning
• further develop and align standard processes and protocols for event delivery as required with the Head of Marketing Events
• Deputising for Senior members of the Events team in meetings when required
