Portfolio Strategy and Planning
(Team Overview)
The Portfolio Management & Strategy team provides portfolio management processes and strategic analysis to support the company in achieving our strategic goals and driving our long-term, sustainable growth with improved learner outcomes. It does this by:
● Identifying and tracking key market trends and opportunities that can drive growth and learning trajectories for Pearson’s various portfolio areas.
● Recommending strategic allocation of R&D resources to support prioritized opportunities for growth and learning impact.
● Partnering with portfolio area, product management, sales and marketing, and technology leadership teams to resolve strategic issues and opportunities and to drive product strategies.
● Providing transparency into and analysis of Pearson’s global product portfolio, including product-level investment, revenue, profitability, and efficacy data
● Creating a consistent and data-driven approach to product portfolio management, product lifecycle (PLC) management, and investment governance across Pearson
● Enabling a global Pearson Product Council and Strat and Ops planning process spanning product, geography and technology organizations to ensure consistent and coordinated priorities, strategy and execution plans

Role Description
The Strategy Analyst contributes to a wide range of projects focused on building, reimagining, and driving the development of new digital learning products intended for a global audience. Work will be project based and may include portfolio and product strategy articulation for senior executives, partnership and acquisition research, business case development, financial modelling analysis, leadership of cross business unit work groups and/or support on pan-Pearson product portfolio initiatives.
● Analyse industry trends, competitive threats, expansion opportunities, internal performance and environmental risks to identify potential new growth opportunities
● Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to support business case development and investment allocation across the portfolio
● Collaborate with peers across the Global Product and Pearson organization to develop business model, revenue model and go-to-market strategy for new portfolio areas, product categories and technology investment opportunities
● Provide analytical and presentation development support for monthly product council meetings, semi-annual portfolio council meetings and frequent executive leadership updates
● Support the development of strategy presentations and reports for senior executives as needed
Essential Skills include:
● Proven analytical and quantitative skill sets
● Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills
● Proficiency in Google Apps / MSFT PowerPoint, Excel and Word
● Comfortable with ambiguity yet driven to make sense of a complex world
● Self-motivated
Qualifications:
● B.A./B.S. required
● Domain experience with Higher Education, School, or English Language Training a plus
● 1-2 years of related work experience in strategy, business development, marketing, market research, or education
