The Associated Press seeks a multimedia producer for a one-year assignment with a focus on health, science and the environment to be based out of its offices in New York, NY.
The multimedia producer will be charged with creating high quality static graphics and high quality animation video explainers that are accurate and elegant across different science, health and environmental topics so that AP can maintain its place as the leading agency with breaking news in all formats. The producer will also create motion graphics in 2D and 3D, work with typography and color treatments across different screens and formats, deliver content through workflow systems that requires a solid understanding of compression techniques and standards.
The visual producer will be an integral part of an all-formats health and science team, producing unique content around a genetic science beat and science fact checks; he or she will work under the direction of visual editors producing news graphics and multimedia elements for all formats, with a strong emphasis on digital and mobile and social platforms.
The multimedia producer should be experienced with writing scripts for breaking news and upcoming news events. The producer should have excellent written and research skills and a strong interest in the subject areas of health, science and the environment. The producer should have solid news judgment and excellent communication skills.The producer will be expected to work independently and in teams as needed and will also be involved in advising and teaching colleagues new techniques and staying abreast of software developments.
The multimedia producer will work on deadline, creating visual explainers, animated re-enactments based on facts and motion-based info-graphics as well as working on long-term enterprise or upcoming events – all with a focus on health, science and the environment. The producer must be able to work a flexible schedule in a fast paced environment and juggle several projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Requirements:
• Strong interest in and science, health and the environment
• Expertise in video/audio editing and productions (After Effects, Final Cut and Premiere)
• Expertise in 2D and 3D illustrations (Cinema 4D)
• Expertise in Adobe creative suites (Photoshop, Illustrator)
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Solid understanding of web standard
• Ability to work on deadline and under pressure on multiple projects
• Excellent knowledge of data tools such as excel spreadsheets and databases
• Knowledge of basic HTML
• Knowledge of 360 or VR
• Team player with excellent collaborative skills
• Degree or equivalent experience
Must be available to work occasional overtime or on weekends due to unplanned breaking news events.
