Role Summary:
Universal Pictures is seeking a seasoned and motivated VP National Publicity executive who can create and execute strategic publicity and awards campaigns for feature film releases. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in entertainment publicity and have strong relationships with A-list editors, bookers, journalists, and talent/filmmaker representatives. Must be able to work effectively as a team leader and as part of the larger publicity team. Must be able to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
You will develop, oversee and execute comprehensive national publicity campaigns for Universal Pictures theatrical releases
You will regularly communicate publicity updates to senior level executives, filmmakers and talent
You will initiate and oversee awards campaigns on select films
You will supervise and direct outside specialty publicity agencies and are responsible for monitoring their performance for the duration of each campaign
You will work closely with the field team and digital team to manage national press participation in press junkets
You will plan and supervise all press junkets and press events (press conferences, stunts, press screenings)
You will oversee press coverage for all red carpet premieres and special events
You will plan and oversee publicity activities for film launches at film festivals and ComicCons
You will be expected to stay abreast of and monitor the competitive landscape and have a strong knowledge of industry trends
You will supervise production publicity on films assigned to you (this includes overseeing unit publicists, and working closely with the photo editor to monitor unit photography and approvals)
You will actively participate in brainstorming strategy sessions with members of the team
You will communicate publicity initiatives to talent representatives and supervise the execution of publicity campaigns to ensure maximum talent participation
You will collaborate with and inform divisions of key publicity strategies and initiatives within marketing (media, creative, digital) as well as company wide divisions when applicable such as Music, Brand, Theme Parks
You will collaborate and work in tandem with the International publicity team to build a cohesive worldwide campaign
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 9 years of experience in entertainment publicity, some of which must be in film publicity (background working on specialized film campaigns is a plus)
You will have extensive working knowledge of awards campaigns and have strong relationships with film critics, guilds, columnists and awards pundits
Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position in a publicity department or at a PR agency
Strong editorial relationships with the press corps
Proven success at creating and executing innovative, strategic publicity campaigns
Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills
Required Education: Bachelors Degree
