The DevOps Engineer is responsible for both implementation and support of Pearson VUE products through the entire software development life cycle focusing primarily on the implementation pieces related to infrastructure, security, configuration, monitoring, and other areas spanning Operations and Technology.
As a DevOps Engineer you will work closely within Development and Operations organizations to implement the necessary tools and process to support the design, automation, deployments and testing of infrastructure and middleware. This will include assessing and implementing robust monitoring, alerting and logging tools, automating system builds, middleware deployments, testing and validation of environment stability.
The DevOps Engineer will work on project teams as well as internal operations teams on various projects including server builds, audits, third party software installation and tuning, vendor evaluation, data integrity, capacity management, security, and performance.
The DevOps Engineer will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, middleware and software meet and adhere to internal organizational standards. The successful candidate will participate in technical research and development to enable continued innovation within the internal infrastructure. This position requires knowledge in a number of technical areas as well as the ability to solve real time production problems quickly in a high pressure environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Windows System Administration: Win2012/2008 Server Configuration, Hardening and Support, Active Directory/Certificate Authority
Unix System Administration: Linux Server Configuration, Hardening and Support
Application/Middleware: Work on installation, tuning and maintenance of middleware tools used to run internal applications. Automate infrastructure and middleware configuration and deployment.
Work closely with Development Teams: Provide infrastructure support and solutioning to software development teams.
System Tuning/Security Hardening: Working with System Architects and security team to tune internal and third party applications as well securing all sensitive data and systems.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or similar discipline required and/ or equivalent years of technical experience
• 5+ years working in DevOps and systems administration role
• Experience with Windows and Linux-based operating system configuration, automation and management
Desired Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Experience with systems architecture and systems administration
• Experience with Data Center operations and Cloud Computing (vCloud/EC2)
• Experience Scripting (Powershell/Shell) and OOP languages (Java/Dot.Net)
• Experience with monitoring and analytical tools such as Splunk and New Relic
• Experience with Java software hosting and tuning
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting application servers (Tomcat/JBoss)
• Experience with Provisioning tools (Chef/Puppet/Vagrant)
• Experience with Continuous Integration toolsets (TeamCity/Jenkins/Bamboo)
• Experience working with various SDLC groups (Development, QA, Configuration Management) on project work as well as solving real time production system issues
• Familiarity with disaster recovery and data replication techniques
• Familiarity with IT audit activities as well as day to day security functions
• Familiarity with networking equipment (load balancing/firewalls)
