Summary
The SVP, Digital will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the overall digital strategy for the National Geographic Society. The SVP, Digital will foster an agile data-driven culture that will make digital an integral part of NGS’ strategy and culture and will lead the delivery of transformative product, technology and audience development capabilities.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and earn organization-wide commitment for a transformative digital strategy and culture that embraces data-based experimentation and innovation. (15%)
2. Foster an agile digitally-savy culture across across the broader organization, facilitating the sharing of best digital practices. (15%)
3. Attract, retain and develop top digital talent. (15%)
4. Define key digital objectives and drive tangible and measurable results. (15%)
5. Lead a digital organization comprised of product, audience development and content operations teams, including the development of: Transformative consumer-facing digital products, including web (principally, ngs.org) and mobile. Strategic technology and infrastructure to support consumer applications, as well as customer relationship management, content management, data management and analytics systems. Innovative audience development program to deliver content, promote engagement and drive impact to key audience constituents across a diverse range of channels. (30%)
6. Identify and understand emerging trends and technologies, including web, mobile, social media, video/VR, analytics, internet of things (IoT) and big data. (5%)
7. Develop a high-value network of business and technology influencers, partners and experts. (5%)
Minumum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree required. Master of Business Administration is desirable.
Minumim Years and Type of Experience
Minimum 15 years executive leadership in cutting-edge digital or technology organizations with strong product cultures, including strategy, product innovation, audience development, publishing and marketing. Prior experience as a SVPD or equivalent position in a similar organization is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Significant digital business transformation experience. Demonstrated ability to navigate matrixed organizational structures, negotiate buy-in across diverse groups of stakeholders and diplomatically challenge the status quo while building strong collaborative relationships. Proven experience planning and executing long-term strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and customer experience.

Three staff members.
