Position Summary:
Assist in developing and producing a unique and compelling daily weekday afternoon show on Hits 1 originating from the Los Angeles area that incorporates music, pop culture, listener issues, and lifestyle appropriate content. Partner with co-hosts, VP and program director to create engaging content, increase listenership and enhance subscriber satisfaction.
Duties and responsibilities:
Production:
• Responsible for reporting, researching, writing, creating and hosting pop culture comedy news daily.
• Researches artist information, drafts and writes show scripts for music airing during the show.
• Strategizes in creating on-air content and creation of show promos and teasers.
• Spends a significant amount of daily time in an overall programming production , manages and coordinates various aspects of the show production (imaging, promos, interviews, etc.)
• On occasion, be responsible for running/managing live control room console live daily.
On-Air:
• Understand on-air talent and assist / back them up during normal business hours.
• Recognize and implement an entertaining, music and lifestyle oriented national on-air radio show.
• Be prepared and knowledgeable daily regarding (but not limited to) music, lifestyle, pop culture, issues, and news, reviewing various sources including social media, web sites, magazines, apps, message boards.
• Review, edit and assist in capturing on and off-site studio and telephone interviews during studio and 8 hour business day.
• Promote the show, the channel and the company positively on and off the air to maximize the growth of subscribers and listeners.
• Meet with VP and Hits 1 programming team on a daily/regular basis to review on-air performance and establish and re-establish on-going goals and memorable programming, as well as retire programming that does not seem favorable for the show and the channel.
• Represent the company as a talent on occasional remote broadcasts and outside events.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of three years experience in on-air and/or production work related to music.
• BS/BA Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Ability to stay plugged in and up to date and quickly adapt to changing trends.
• Fundamental knowledge of programming and programming philosophy.
• Must possess a commitment to excellence, ability to take direction and work well with others in a collaborative environment.
Requirements and General Skills:
• Music programming experience at a satellite, traditional commercial, and/or college radio station.
• Good public speaking and presentation skills.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
• Must be able to effectively interact and manage with high profile guests.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
• High level of creativity and ability to successfully ideate re: specific shows, programming concepts and objectives.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of digital editing software (Zetta and or/ Dalet/ Prophet) 360 Systems/Shortcut/VoxPro.
