ROLE SUMMARY:
The web editor will provide support to the News team in all aspects of social media platforms, as well as digital. This position will work closely with leaders throughout the newsroom to weave the KVEA T52 brand into everything the station does. This position will report directly to the VP, of News.
Responsibilities
Work with Telemundo Content Center’s editorial team to direct the local editorial operation for the Telemundo 52 website and App, ensuring the voice, tone and mix of content fits with the local LA market and the overall editorial strategy.
Manage input from KVEA Newsroom to ensure that content on website is accurate, timely, relevant and competitively engaging to publish stories onto the website across a 24/7 schedule.
Produce the homepage, main pages and subsections of the website. Create original articles, videos and slideshows; gather original content from the Telemundo newsroom, and curate a wide-variety of stories from other sources, including blogs, newspapers, online publications, and magazines. Create and formulate strategic “Push Alerts” to drive back to Station’s motherships.
Champion use of Social Media with Newsroom talent. Educate, train and engage Talent on effective strategies that drive and propel their interaction with our audiences. Measure their performance and ensure that all posts are compliant with station brand.
Provide analysis of stations Digital and Social Media performance. Communicate with Management on stories that grew audience and help to develop a cohesive multi-platform strategy.
Collaborate with Management and Marketing to understand station tent poles and when applicable make recommendations for boosting strategies.
Collaborate with the NBC 4 Digital team to share stories and resources that are applicable to crossover audiences.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements
Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism, political science or English
Minimum 3 years’ experience as an editor, senior writer or senior producer at a major news organization that creates content under tight deadlines
Minimum 2 years’ experience managing editors, writers, bloggers and/or freelance contributors
Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours when demanded by the group’s start-up environment, breaking news or other editorial responsibilities
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)to a native standard is required both for written and verbal applications
