Main purpose of role:
The SBM will work with UK Schools business to lead Business Partnering for UK Schools Learning Services, working closely with the Learning Services Director, Sales Director and Marketing Director and the wider UK Schools division.

Greater consistency in business performance and faster business transformation through more analytical resource allocation
More considered and driver-led strategic and operating plans as a result of moving closer to the business / learner and greater efficacy resourced into the businesses as a result of improved focus on driving non financial outcomes.
Greater support for the business in terms of financial analysis and support
Cohesive approach to portfolio management, including early warning of key issues, benefit tracking and greater certainty over cost outcomes
Main activities/responsibilities:
Roles:
Provide robust, thoughtful and highly analytical finance support to the UK Schools business to drive improvements in financial performance and support strategic development (this applies to revenue generating opportunities, cost control and investment analysis via KPIs as applicable). Act as day to day Finance Business Partner to the Secondary Learning Services, Marketing and Sales Directors.
Prepare the businesses operating plans and forecasts (P&L, and also supporting preparation of Balance Sheet and Cash) ensuring they accurately reflect the management teams' plans and targets and business strategies. Support the enabling functions in these processes as required.
Review monthly results and provide an insightful commentary on them. Find the critical insights in the data and help lead the business thinking and results through this. Identify risks and opportunities
Support the implementation of the new finance model and collaborate extensively within finance and across Pearson, including colleagues in Lines of Business, enabling functions, country hub operations and centres of excellence organized at the Pearson level.
Review the actual financial data produced by the Controllers team and, using commercial knowledge of the business area, feedback on any areas of inconsistency or policy misapplication. Review all accruals and provisions to ensure they properly reflect the commercial position of the business as well as Pearson's financial accounting policies.
Ensure Pearson’s anti-bribery and corruption practices are in place, operating effectively and are in compliance.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Fluent English,
• Qualified accountant
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Strong strategic thinking – able to lift from the day to day data, combine it with external trends, market data, etc to see the bigger picture and help shape the future
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with both finance professionals, the wider company and external parties,
• Performance focused for both self and business,
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven experience of influencing, ability to work to deadlines, experience of working in a multinational company dealing with a matrix organization.
• Previous commercial and analytical finance experience in a business with >£10m revenue.
