Director of Product Marketing
Fountas and Pinnell Literacy

Location: Portsmouth, NH (with ability to travel approximately 25%)
Position Summary
The Director of Product Marketing, Fountas and Pinnell Literacy is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the marketing activities for the Fountas and Pinnell product line. The candidate will guide all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing go-to-market strategy to support and expanded customer base as well as revenue growth.
Specific responsibilities include business and market development; market research and planning; strategic direction for digital and print promotions and other advertising opportunities.
This position reports directly to the VP of Marketing. The candidate will join an expanding team and will work together and in cooperation with an existing Fountas and Pinnell Director of Marketing as well as several product marketing managers and graphic designers.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the planning and development of F&P products to ensure that the vision, reputation and high standards of the authors and Heinemann, as well as all market and business requirements, are fully met.
• As part of Heinemann’s author-facing team, establish and cultivate productive relationships with authors Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, as well as other Heinemann authors through thoughtful interactions, respectful and timely communication, and collaborative development of content.
• Coordinate with the VP of Marketing and the entire F&P team to synchronize marketing and product development strategies, including go-to-market plans, competitive positioning, product availability, and pricing to maximize market penetration and meet revenue goals for current and new F&P products.
• Collaborate and communicate with internal Marketing colleagues, Regional Sales Managers, Inside Sales teams and others on implemented marketing strategies and campaigns.
• Ensure current and new F&P products are effectively and appropriately messaged, promoted, and sold to maximize market penetration and revenue generation while preserving the integrity and distinction of the F&P brand.
• Provide relevant business and market intelligence to F&P Editorial and Marketing teams by developing and maintaining strong, ongoing channels of communication with the Heinemann and Pre-K–12 Sales, Marketing, Editorial, and other cross-functional teams and by monitoring competitive issues and market trends.
• Develop, direct and implement annual marketing plan(s) and budgets necessary to achieve operational goals.
• Initiate and expand utilization of HMH shared services, e.g. services and teams within the Content Development Group, Corporate Marketing, and Market Intelligence, to augment Heinemann’s in-house talent and capabilities, increase efficiency, and drive cross-divisional best practices in editorial and marketing efforts.
• Oversee and approve the design of online and print collateral (e.g. research reports, homepage content, professional profiles, case studies, etc.) according to F&P Literacy brand compliance.
• Develop, manage and/or assist with selected social media campaigns.
• Develop, design and maintain selected web product pages in conjunction with internal colleagues. Manage all advertising and related contract negotiations.
Required Education and Experience
• College degree in education, business, or related field
• Minimum 10 years of experience in marketing
• Proven strategic marketing skills and experience in educational publishing industry
• Proficient with technology across various marketing channels: web page content development, lead gathering landing pages, social media sites (primarily Facebook and Twitter)
• Exceptional verbal and written skills
• Must be team oriented, ability to collaborate with others at various levels
• Ability to work at an accelerated pace and on multiple complex projects
• Detail oriented, strong creative skills, a sense of humor
• Possess a strong passion for expanded educational opportunities students and for elevating teacher expertise
