Overview:
AMC Networks is looking for a Head of Technology, SVOD to manage the video hosting and delivery technology team inside its New Digital Business Group. This dynamic group is focused on new streaming content businesses and currently operates a couple of high-growth streaming video subscription services: Shudder, dedicated to horror, and Sundance Now, focused on indie and high-quality film and TV.
Shudder and Sundance Now are the leading SVOD services in their respective categories. They offer the best in curated, exclusive and original programming and are accessible on all major streaming video platforms (web, iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, FireTV, Xbox, etc.). These services launched less than two years ago but are scaling and expanding globally at an explosive rate.
This position will manage the talented technology team of 15-20 frontend and backend developers, system architects, dev ops, tech delivery project managers, and content operations managers and is responsible for overall technology strategy, architecture, and operations. We are looking for a builder and a team leader who can be the go-to for all things technology-related and provide expertise on detailed elements of the platform, systems and infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
• Further define, architect, and manage the full tech stack for a small number of video streaming services including consumer applications, backend systems enablers and infrastructure.
• Build, integrate and maintain multiple systems that power all aspects of the service.
• On an on-going basis, evaluate and make recommendations related to various “build vs. buy” options and scenarios that shrewdly take advantage of advancements and simplifications in the vendor/provider marketplace while maximizing internal development resources.
• Maintain platform roadmap and drive plans for execution, deployment, prioritization and optimization of all systems and infrastructure.
• Design and maintain state of the art network availability, security, redundancy and disaster recovery. Continue to enhance the ability of our operations team to proactively detect issues before they become customer impacting.
• Maintain best-in-class network uptime and streaming performance across a wide variety of device platforms and bandwidth conditions.
• Identify platform capability gaps, assess vendor solutions, and define how these solutions will integrate with existing platform.
• Build data storage, processing and analysis platform enablers so that our data can be used to drive subscriber growth, influence content purchasing decisions and measure operational performance of the platform.
• Proactively manage relationships with key platform vendors.
• Hire, manage and develop a best in class team of engineers, developers, dev ops engineers and project managers.
• Be a thought leader in the New Business Group and maintain and raise engineering and operational standards.
• Be responsible for mentoring, coaching, managing and evaluating performance of tech team members while also recruiting and retaining top talent.
• Communicate regularly with AMCN executive management.

Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience of increasing responsibility managing engineering teams.
• Experience building, deploying, and managing video streaming experiences across multiple technology platforms.
• Experience managing a team of developers that spans a variety of code languages and skill levels.
• Experience with building solutions that that leverage AWS, APIs, Mobile Applications (iOS and Android), CDN’s, Modern JavaScript Web Frameworks (e.g. Angular, React) and Connected TV Platforms (Roku, Apple-TV, Fire-TV etc.)
• Experience leading an Agile team through iterative work in a fast paced environment. Experience with optimizing an existing Agile software development process and tools to increase the development velocity
• Experience with designing a multi-platform release management process where release platforms have different approval processes (e.g. Web, IOS, Roku)
