Summary of Position
• Responsible for prospecting and booking new short-term (within 13 months) local (island of O‘ahu) meetings and/or events, including but not limited to: social events, corporate meetings, expos, tradeshows, fundraisers, fairs, government agencies, etc. that fill need periods for HCC, which are not already booked by off-shore citywide groups.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
• Promotes HCC by interacting with local businesses/organizations and their representatives to develop new short-term opportunities for the HCC; Establishes and cultivates relationships with appropriate resources and contacts; Entertain clients as warranted and responds promptly to all inquiries, leads, and opportunities.
• Actively prospects for new business by mining current data base of accounts, attending local events, personal sales calls, leveraging existing relationships, and in unique situations where competing venues or hotels are undergoing renovations, or closing temporarily, being able to partner with those entities to maximize such one-time opportunities that may come about as a result.
• Organizes and helps to execute (with the assistance of F&B and Events Departments) client events and/or parties.
• Prepares, implements and manages an effective smart plan that outlines effective and realistic strategies, goals and initiatives targeting those in the local market that have the ability to book meetings or events.
• Conducts informative and engaging site visits of the HCC.
• Utilizes CRM system.
• Creates and/or prepare proposals, an LOC and License Agreement as needed.
• Follows-up with both internal and external clients and provides on-site support as needed and/or as requested by client.
• Performs other related duties as may be required or assigned by Management.
Experience Required
• A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in sales relative to booking short-term local meetings and/or events.
• Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community.
• Must exercise sound judgment in all Fiscal matters, which follow AEG and Hawaii Convention Center’s Policy, Procedures and Reporting processes.
Education Required
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in business, marketing, communications, advertising or public relations.
License Required
• Valid driver license and satisfactory driving record.
Additional Skills Required
• Demonstrated the ability to qualify an account and overcome challenges put forth by potential clients by providing features, benefits and reasons why HCC is the ideal venue of choice.
• Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs., stand, sit, crouch and bend throughout the course of daily activities.
• Must be organized and efficient with the ability to lead and direct staff.
• Personal and professional initiative, enthusiasm, and dedication to excellence in wide ranging services to the center’s clients and their customers. Ability to establish and maintain a system for assuring high standards of productivity within the department.
• Ability to maintain an on-going list by priority of projects and tasks, to assume timely and effective solutions to unanticipated client focused issues.
• Superior verbal & written communication skills; leadership skills; ability to receive and give instructions; ability to make presentations to company management and clients. Requires the ability to interface with all levels of employees in all departments.
• Ability to work a varied schedule including weekends and holidays, as required
• Ability to work long hours, while under pressure.
• Ability to adapt and work effectively in various parts of the facility.
• Ability to work in various climates based on the environment.
• Working knowledge of tools and equipment related to managing a multi-purpose and
world-class Convention Center facility.
• Must have a continuous drive and passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests, employees, and tenants.
• Must have general computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to uphold the Hawaii Convention Center’s commitment to hospitality and “Aloha Spirit”.
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service.
• Knowledge of general business practices.

• A satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience in related fields and/or educational disciplines, sufficient to qualify for the requirements of position
Expected Hours of Work
• Due to the cyclical nature of the Convention and Travel Industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Hawaii Convention Center. In addition attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
