Job Description
At Aol, we are focused on building a next generation content services platform. We are transforming how people connect with information, products and one another by bringing together innovative technologies to create rich and engaging consumer experiences.
We’re looking for a mid-senior product manager to further develop our internal and external API strategy and help guide our platform team. You’ll partner with our publisher’s development teams to help build a service ecosystem, and with our engineering teams to define and prioritize features that improve the velocity, reliability and scalability of the publishing platform. This is a key role as we scale the development and product organization as we bring on more publishers.
Responsibilities:
• Own the API strategy, developer portal(s), developer documentation and tools
• Develop a product roadmap for the API services considering numerous inputs and considerations, and help teams prioritize and manage execution of the roadmap
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine and document product/business requirements and link technical capabilities to strategic vision and business needs
• Write narrative user stories describing ideal customer and partner experience
• Develop & analyze product KPIs, and oversee testing and optimization efforts
• Cross functional leader; able to communicate across all levels
Qualifications
• Good understanding of platform service models, including Platform as a Service (PaaS)
• Experience with Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures (REST APIs)
• Ability to lead, drive consensus and deliver to multiple stakeholders
• Real world understanding of Agile and its applications, supporting tools, and processes; delivered as an Agile Product Owner (user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog mgmt)
• Strong background in analytics to make data-driven product decisions and to iterate rapidly
• Strong experience in core product management, including customer analysis, market segmentation, KPI management, operational management and roadmap development
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other functional teams to execute on new product features and requirements as the product roadmap evolves, and manage implementation and integration across entire product portfolio
• 5+ years' experience with software or technology product management and/or development
• 3+ years experience managing platform APIs as a product through the full life-cycle
• 3+ years' experience with service oriented architecture and Agile development methodologies
• 3+ years' experience leading and effectively managing a complex platform that is highly reliable and scalable
• Proven experience of managing products, budgets and justifying resource needs to senior leaders and finance partners
• Engineering and or engineering management experience a plus
• Ability to lead decision making conversations about ownership, funding, creating, managing and maintaining shared services, including a demonstrated ability to think holistically about the services that should be built to support the business
• Metrics driven, can draw insights from large data sets to tune the API engagement
• Experience working with customers, to ensure correct use of services
• Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team
• Strong ability to translate product needs to technology and understand technology
• Highly organized, analytical, problem solving mindset, and intellectually curious, with proven experience managing complex projects to successful completion
• Strong mix of creativity, product instincts, technical acumen, with a good mind for monetization, and maniacal focus on user experience
• Ability and willingness to roll up the sleeves and get things done; motivated to learn and improve
