Position Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day production schedule and the crew to ensure the timely and efficient completion of the production. Under the direction of the Line Producer, he/she develops and oversees the show schedules and implements the overall show strategies. The PM interacts with the Executive Producer, Line Producer and senior management on day-to-day crew progress and needs. Also, the PM is responsible for ensuring that pertinent information is communicated to all appropriate parties on the show at all times.
Primary Function:
Assess challenges to productivity and present solutions to solve the issues.
Create and contribute to a culture that creates an environment where the crew can do their best work.
Manage complexity by presenting core creative group with options and allowing them to prioritize their wishes.
Ensure that in-house and partner studio storyboard, design, asset, animatic, animation and post schedules tie into the master schedule.
Ensures communication for the studio and show leadership make it to the floor as well as information from the floor being communicated up.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Scheduling:
Manage the overall show schedule, track man weeks and coordinate the day-to-day workflow and post-production. Approve and manage overtime on the show.
Help to establish the org chart, division of duties and approval and production pipeline. Ensure proper staffing in all departments. Provide input to the Line Producer and Production Accountant in creating and maintaining the production’s staffing profile.
Work with the Supervising Producer and Episodic Director in conjunction with the Line Producer on the schedule and planning of their departments. Ensure deadlines are met and troubleshoot issues that prevent the show from hitting deadlines.
Strategize creative solutions to production challenges to ensure schedules are met.
Partner with the Line Producer to determine current and future personnel needs based on input from appropriate Production Staff. This includes overall crew size and start/finish dates. Flag potential problems in any of these areas.
Communicate daily with partner studios; troubleshoot issues and potential delays.
Managerial:
Be responsible for the information in production reports; including knowing what the information means, gaps that require discussion and trends that appear.
Attend pitches and other review meetings with Episodic Director or Supervising Producer or Art Director to ensure that schedule is moving forward and/or specific issues are addressed.
Advise Executive Producer and/or Line Producer of any potential problems or issues, particularly those impacting budget, offering solutions when possible.
Assist Post Production Supervisor in monitoring and facilitating retake process; ensure information is communicated in a timely manner and monitor retake budget.
Manage Production Staff; delegate to and empower the Production Staff.
Run production meetings to ensure clear communication, dissemination of information, acknowledge accomplishments and discuss challenges.
Hold check-ins with creative leadership and Production Staff on a regular basis to discuss challenges, acknowledge successes and discuss morale issues.
Morale, Mentoring and Staffing:
Provide coaching and mentorship to show leadership and production management.
Responsible for initiatives to develop and maintain crew morale.
Responsible for the proper introduction of appropriate scheduling tools to the crew.
Assist Line Producer with performance review process for crew and Production Staff.
Work collaboratively with show leadership, Artists, Recruiters and Human Resources to define and communicate ongoing recruitment requirements.
Strategize a plan for any performance management or personnel issues that arise and carry that plan through all appropriate steps which could include elevating to the Line Producer and Human Resources.
Requirements:
Software requirements: Microsoft Word and Excel, Gmail and knowledge of production tracking databases.
Knowledge of Maya, Photoshop and/or Illustrator is a plus.
Comprehensive knowledge of TV animation production process.
Ability to work with international partner studios.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced production environment.
Qualifications:
5+ years of TV animation management experience is required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
