Springer, the leading global STM publisher, is seeking an Editorial Assistant for its central London office. The Senior Editorial Assistant will be working in the applied sciences/engineering editorial department on a growing and successful books and journals list. The EA will support the Executive Editor for engineering in managing and growing the books and journals programme.
Main Duties
• Preparing documentation
• Maintaining database records
• Collating relevant material for pre-contract meetings
• Sending material out for review and chasing responses
• Prepare contracts, distribute and chase those outstanding
• Keeping in regular contact with contracted authors and alerting the Editor to any delays problems etc. in order to forward plan for the year and through effective project management, ensure manuscript delivery targets are met
• Advising and updating the Executive Editor on the current status of established projects (both at pre and post-contract stage)
• Keeping up to date with the status of Springer's journals (copyflow, schedules)
• Doing all necessary correspondence, including mail merges for the Editor and general secretarial duties including file maintenance and filing
• Liaison with Production over schedules etc., tracking book progress, approving covers, checking front matter proofs
• Research for conferences, reviewers, etc.
• Managing and finding content for company social media feeds
• Arranging payment for journal editors, reviewer and other contacts
• Writing copy for approval for the Executive Editor
• Deputising for the Executive Editor when required
• Contributing to meetings with authors and journal editors-in-chief
Person Specification
• Educated to degree level or above. A science BSc or MSc is an advantage but not required
• Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A high level of computer literacy – understands common software (e.g., Microsoft Office suite) and gains new software skills quickly
• Analytical skills
• Self-starter with a positive, can-do approach to problem-solving
• Able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
