Condé Nast seeks a senior Web producer for a position on newyorker.com.
The role of the senior Web producer is to copy-edit blog posts on a wide variety of topics. A good candidate has the ability to read blog posts with a critical ear, recasting for clarity and concision when necessary, and to move through news pieces quickly and accurately, looking for mistakes of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax. Candidates will also write headlines and choose language for sharing on social media.
Applicants should have a strong sense of The New Yorker’s tone and sensibility, and a serious interest in learning the magazine’s extensive house style.
Candidates should be comfortable learning new computer applications and working with content-management systems.
The position is a full-time, non-staff role, at our offices in New York, and requires working evenings and occasional holidays and late nights.
Requirements:
Candidates must have:
• at least four years’ experience as a copy editor
• mastery of the history, style, and values of The New Yorker
• a strong interest in current affairs, and a willingness to work at the speed of the Web
• a flair for writing display copy that engages the reader and adheres to The New Yorker's distinctive voice and outlook
• an interest in digital journalism and an ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks simultaneously
• the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
