Description
The User Experience Researcher - Accessibility is responsible for bringing the voice of users with disabilities to our product development process at Pearson. Your primary responsibility will be conducting accessibility research for Pearson Higher Education’s next-generation products. Research will focus on reducing the barriers to education for our users. This position works directly with research participants to conduct formative & summative research to ensure that our digital products meet the highest standards both in terms of their ease of use and accessibility. You will advise on all aspects of product development related to accessibility for users with disabilities, and drive accessibility in the UX process by working closely with UX designers, developers, and product owners. You will advocate for accessible design practices and facilitate workshops to train new UX and Learning Design employees. This role requires communication and collaboration with a wide range of accessibility stakeholders across the organization, including product, efficacy, prototypers, and developers.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and in-depth knowledge of global accessibility guidelines such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 desired.
● Experience with Assistive Technology including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), screen magnifiers (WindowEyes, ZoomText), speech-to-text (Dragon Naturally Speaking), etc.
● Independent self-starter with strong project management and formal presentations skills.
● Experience participating in multi-disciplinary teams, conducting user experience research within an agile development process
● MA/MS degree or equivalent in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Industrial Design, Digital Media, or a related field. A minimum of (2) years of directly related work experience in collecting user data for online interfaces.
● Experience facilitating user experience research methodologies including usability testing, contextual interviews, surveys.
● Two or more years of experience as an accessibility researcher, with a demonstrated professional demeanor and an ability to put research participants at ease.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Contribute as a member of a team that solves user problems through User Centered Design process.
● Drive product UX accessibility research effort, recommends appropriate methodologies depending on research objectives.
● Technical Skills: familiar with coding best practices for front end development, CSS, ARIA, HTML 4 / 5, Morae
● Consult with designers, product managers, developers, prototypers and other team members to design, script, conduct and report user research that delivers appropriate and timely insights to the product design process.
● Work with project business representatives and team members to test business concepts and requirements using heuristic/qualitative/quantitative methods.
● Interpret results, and data to identify UX issues. Communicates results and recommendations in a timely and easily consumable format.
● Continuously strive to improve our research and design process to deliver better output.
● Collaborate with other teams to measure our effectiveness improving the user experience
