The Business Initiative Specialist is a sales position thats open in San Diego that will be responsible for growing revenue generating programs and effectively managing campaigns including Pay for Performance (PFP), Co-Op and Direct Mail. This position is responsible for campaign management, sales communication, initiative training and revenue growth. This position is specific to New Business Development and growing profitability with past and current clientele.
Responsibilities:
General
• Develop continual top of mind awareness through conversation and communication with internal sales team
• Educate and train sales team on business initiatives/special programs, SOP’s and success rates
• Work one on one with reps and managers to identify key targets tailored to each program
• Work with other Tronc markets to understand participation and success as well as gain insight to future planning
• Partner with TribDirect, Proven Performance Media (PPM) as well as LA Times CO-OP
Pay For Performance
• Lead and manage the Advertising, Pay For Performance platform while working with internal sales team
• Develop plan for target categories and audience, that focus during seasonal or event specific times of the year to run targeted print advertising
• Meet with clients either as an individual or with sales reps to discuss program and partnership
• Foster partnership with 3rd party expert vendor to utilize support, research and expertise
• Educate and train sales team on business initiatives/special programs, SOP’s and success rates
• Conduct Market Research with internal resources to understand what categories perform during seasonal events
• Communicate to Coordinator changes, revisions, updates or requests including schedules, billing and creative
• Set expectation for Performance Creative
• Campaign Optimization for all PFP accounts including revising rates, watching paid inches and managing margins
• Effectively manage disputes between the client and The San Diego Union-Tribune regarding billing, invalid calls and campaign status
• Review current and existing programs on a weekly/monthly basis to indicate KPI’s and profit margins
• Review all accounts with Advertising, VP monthly
• Revenue tracking and forecasting
Co-OP
• Research opportunities that are seasonal or time limited on a monthly basis
• Communicate opportunities to sales team on a regular basis
• Hold Quarterly Co-Op workshops to maintain Co-Op presence and top of mind awareness
• Manage the process from authorization to run date by communicating with administration/ manufacturer
• Track revenue and fulfill any approval/submission needed
Direct Mail
• Communicate capabilities, successes and opportunities with sales staff on a regular basis
• Work one on one with the TribDirect team for samples, quote requests and opportunities
• Supply reps with SOP and assessment information needed to request a quote
• Project Management from quote to print
• Track all revenue falling under Direct Mail for sales presentation and reporting
Qualifications:
• College degree preferred, with a focus in advertising, business management, accounting, finance or other related fields of study.
• Minimum of 2 years working experience in fields relating directly to business management or revenue generating roles.
• Good understanding of general business procedures, including sales, marketing and business financing.
• Ability to train and coach teams on new initiatives and programs.
• Good writing skills required for presentation and preparation of accurate oral and well written summaries of company’s financial analysis.
• Ability to produce effective and clear communication, both written and verbal.
