EMEA Research Analyst (Locum -- 6 months initially)
Location: either London, UK or Heidelberg, Germany
Business Area and mission
The Strategy & Market Intelligence team is made up of three distinct yet synergistic verticals that support the overall strategic vision of Springer Nature. The Research Analyst sits within the global Market Intelligence vertical focusing on institutional and commercial customer and market insights.
Purpose of role
This varied and involved role is tasked with researching, reporting and analysing Springer Nature journal, eBook and database usage metrics. Furthermore it assists in the delivery of combined Springer Nature usage data and supports the introduction and associated education process in making usage data more readily available. In addition to working with usage data you will be delivering timely, accurate and actionable market and customer intelligence to the EMEA sales and management teams in order to help secure existing as well as generate new and incremental business. You will be working closely with and across a great variety of Springer Nature departments such as the Sales and Marketing teams, Management Reporting, Planning & Analysis, Business Intelligence, Customer/Online Service and other teams closely associated with Springer Nature‘s commercial divisions. This role is a fantastic opportunity to advance one’s reporting and analytical skills as well as gaining a deeper insight into the exciting STM publishing world.
Responsibilities
• Deliver COUNTER reporting and web analytics for customers across the EMEA region. Provide regular and ad hoc journal, eBook and database usage reports and analyses for the EMEA sales team.
• Provide strategic market and customer reports to Institutional Sales and NRG Commercial teams to facilitate upsell, cross-sell as well as new business opportunities. Further provide sales and management teams with detailed breakdowns on the levels of product/market penetration reached in order to assist in decision-making processes.
• Constantly enhance and match available data sources to generate a truly 360° view of the customer, by combining usage, citation and other content utilisation data with financial and content holdings information as well as third-party figures about research-oriented institutions and organisations. Work closely with the Management Reporting, Planning & Analysis as well as Business Intelligence teams.
• Provide sales teams with qualified new and upsell business leads for new and existing Springer Nature markets and consistently monitor and report on leads progress.
Experience, skills and qualifications
• 1-2 years of relevant market research and/or data analytics experience preferably gained in a content driven commercial environment.
• Experience cleansing, manipulating and transforming data with the ability to interpret data and analyse results to generate insights.
• Advanced Excel skills and exposure and familiarity with business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, SAP Business Objects, Salesforce Analytics etc.).
• Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to consistently generate work product with the highest degree of numerical and factual accuracy.
• Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritise diverse tasks with a proven ability to meet hard deadlines.
• Demonstrated success in translating research findings and data analyses into actionable strategies through strong storytelling and PowerPoint/design skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving and constantly evolving environment.
• Excellent communication, organisation and team interaction skills.
• Ability to identify problems and use initiative and proactive approach to resolve them quickly.
• Bachelor degree desired.
• Previous STM publishing experience advantegous.
