106.3 WORD, The Upstate’s Talk Station, is looking for a full-time reporter/anchor to add to its award-winning news staff. Complete multimedia skills will be a plus for the successful candidate. Story telling with sound is primary, but social media postings/video skills will be an asset. The candidate should also be familiar with computerized news gathering and be flexible in dealing with breaking news situations. Previous news reporting and/or anchoring required. The successful candidate will be someone who thinks outside the normal realm of what news is – and be able to craft memorable content with impact, and be willing to get out of the newsroom and into the community.
This is a rare opening for one of Greenville’s most respected news departments. Candidates must show efficient yet effective writing skills, creativity, and the ability to think on their feet in case of breaking news coverage. Specifics:
Enthusiastic, Aggressive, high-energy Reporter:
Specialize in covering a news beat
Producing daily news for radio newscasts,
Producing in-depth radio features
Produces special reports as assigned.
Anchoring on-air newscasts,
Produce content (audio and video) on multi-media platforms including web and social media sites.
Must be mobile to cover news on scene and in the field.
Existing cell phone service and recent edition smartphone
Reliable transportation and valid SC driver’s license required.
Skills required also include on-line research, word processing, digital editing, and operation of light office equipment. Additional preferred qualities include a track record of network story contributions, Web experience. Must have excellent memory for details, be able to meet daily deadlines under pressure and deal effectively with simultaneous tasks.
The News Reporter works under the supervision of the News Director.
