This position services both the NY and Princeton offices and travel between the two locations is required.
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Sr. Director of Content Operations to lead our Editorial Services and Composition teams. This is an exciting, new opportunity for a proven leader in the book publishing industry who has a career in managing content. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of book publishing processes, successful track record leading and developing teams as well as experience in setting and implementing strategies for further improvements. A keen sense for process enhancements along with previous content management and digital workflow experience is required.
Responsibilities:
• Lead two content teams: Editorial Services responsible for proofreading and the Composition team responsible for composing text
• Act as the primary liaison for change between various teams to provide high quality
• Work closely with divisional Managing Editors and Production Editors to provide high-quality content
◦ Understand each teams’ priorities and challenges and be proactive in identifying innovative and efficient solutions
◦ Establish quality standards for in-house and outsourced services
◦ Identify industry best practices and understand trends
◦ Develop metrics and processes to measure and deliver to those high standards to improve quality and consistency
◦ Maximize adherence to defined quality standards.
• Monitor schedules, quality and daily workload for the Content Management and Editorial Services teams
◦ Recommend solutions to increase throughput and productivity while maintaining high quality standards
• Define process and system requirements to support growing content management needs
◦ Participate in process and technology initiatives, including providing feedback and defining requirements
◦ Develop workflow strategies to meet changing needs
• Oversee outsourcing of work to vendors and freelancers per HarperCollins’ guidelines
◦ Determine rates for all services to meet budget
◦ Provide monthly productivity, cost reporting
• Engage employees to identify cost reduction opportunities
Qualifications:
• Four-year degree, plus 10+ years of experience in book publishing leading content departments
• Proven track record with successfully leading through change
• Excellent leadership skills and ability to work well with offsite teams
• Ability to communicate, interact with and deliver on multiple priorities in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work, coordinate and influence cross-functional teams
