Overview and Responsibilities
Director of Engineering is responsible for the technical direction and leadership supporting all aspects of the web, mobile and backend engineering to support client applications.
• This candidate must be able to manage complex production issues and find creative solutions to conflicts and able to act in a consistently professional manner under pressure.
• Leading a developer team in understanding the development, planning and optimization of all code written.
• Responsible for technology frameworks both in development and deployment.
• Monitoring and assessing the code written by team developers, mentoring and assisting in training junior developers.
• Under supervisor’s direction, developing, setting and maintaining the coding standards of the Music & Entertainment Group and its related properties by writing and documenting core software code.
• Manifesting a technology vision for the site that not only fulfills the business requirements but develops new opportunities and long range enhancements.
• Responsible for technology frameworks both in development and deployment.
• Being dedicated to completing work for time-sensitive promotions and events and instilling an atmosphere of professionalism.
• Work with supervisor and team to push development “boundaries” further by utilizing latest server, web and client-side technologies.
• Collaborating on projects with other departments and technical teams to develop creative and efficient approaches to production with sensitivity to information architecture issues.
• Under supervisor’s direction , make recommendations to client to improve product development or help client choose best possible paths of development as well as promoting theirs and Viacom’s technology visions.
• Work with supervisor and project managers to manage and allocate the development resources of the technical production department and make recommendations for improving production procedures.
• Working closely with client/brand leads and producers to ensure sites developed correctly translate and express business or brand logic and needs.
Basic Qualifications
• Have at least 5 years high level site development experience and web application development.
• The candidate must have at least four years of general interactive management experience.
• Expert at working in cloud native environments, such as AWS and GCE.
• Understanding of DevOps workflow, Docker, Containers, Orchestration, CI and CD.
• Experience designing and implementing data exchange and service-based architectures (SBA), Microservices and Data Driven Design.
• Experienced in relational database modeling and development, data caching systems, and object-relational mapping technologies.
• Expert experience with client side technologies, data exchange, dynamic content, server-side scripting environments and software.
• Expert understanding on REST based API implementations and API Gateways.
• Experience and fluency with a variety of production methodologies such as waterfall, agile, extreme, SCRUM, Kanban and the ability to direct workflow according to the situations that are presented.
• Enterprise level deployment and site management and experience in developing distributed computing applications, with expertise in concurrency and multi-threaded programming paradigms.
• Well experienced with use of design patterns in code and pattern-oriented software architecture.
• Strong experience with web video, HTML5 Video and emerging platforms.
• Excellent communication skills a requirement.
Additional Qualifications
• Post Secondary Degree (BA, BSc, CS ) and or graduate (MA, MFA, MSc)
• S. in Computer Science or Engineering, M.S. preferred
• Expert PHP, NodeJS and JavaScript with emphasis on Object Oriented approaches. Familiarity with GO a big plus. Object oriented programming, functional programming and reactive frameworks.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment and be adaptable to the demands of all levels and types of production duties.
• Must be willing to take technical risks and envision or encourage the pursuit of next generation interactive models.
• Capable of understanding business objectives and able to translate business goals into technical design: Creative problem solving is valued very highly.
