Netflix is changing the way entertainment is consumed by people all over the world. We are also changing the kinds of entertainment people watch with groundbreaking new titles and formats. We are still in the beginning stages of our journey to become the biggest and most data-driven studio the world has ever seen - and we need a talented data scientist to help us take it to the next level.
When we decide how to promote content to our members, we do it through rigorous experimentation and deep dives into user behavior. As a data scientist on the Science & Algorithms team, you will answer, through experimental design and analysis questions that include (but are not limited to):
• How we find the right target audience for our titles, knowing we have multiple new titles launching every week?
• How we can push the bounds of video features to promote titles in a way that feels as cinematic as a trailer in the movie theater?
• The best way to build excitement for our titles before they launch on the service through innovative UI features?
• How word-of-mouth spreads and a deeper understanding of the network effects that make some titles a hit, and others not?
Responsibilities:
• Partner closely with Product Management leadership to design and analyze experiments that drive key product decisions.
• Proactively perform data exploration on user behavior to discover future testing opportunities.
• Present your research and insights to all levels of the company, clearly and concisely.
• Research the best metrics to measure user engagement.
• Lead the research and development of new experimentation methods and statistical techniques that could sharpen or speed up decision making.
Qualifications:
• PhD or MS degree in Behavioral Economics or other quantitative social science, Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Operations Research, or Physics.
• 3+ years relevant experience with a proven track record of leveraging analytics to drive significant business impact
• Strong statistical knowledge and intuition
• Ability to build a robust predictive model from a very large data set and leverage for insights
• Strong SQL skills
