This is a year-long, full-time, contract position based in the Portsmouth, NH, with potential for extension.
Overall Responsibility:
The Manufacturing Buyer purchases the manufacturing services of prepress, paper, print, bind, and duplication on complex products as member of a dedicated author team. Working under the supervision of the Senior F&P Project Manager/Manufacturing Buyer, the successful candidate will assist in scheduling and monitoring projects to meet predetermined cost, schedule, and quality standards on an ongoing basis. Must possess outstanding organizational/problem-solving skills, be extremely detail-oriented, and be a proactive team player.
Primary Accountabilities:
• Working under the supervision of the PM, works with team to determine print/reprint quantities
• Obtains/evaluates vendor quotes, determines best product placement, preschedules titles, prepares PO’s and shipping instructions, and verifies/processes/submits invoices for assigned product and marketing pieces
• Assigns vendors (pre-scheduling components as needed) and oversees projects from file release through final receipt into warehouse
• Monitors and ensures that components meet or beat quality, pricing, and schedule benchmarks
• Obtains printers samples to suggested specifications, working with printers and team to brainstorm ways to improve overall manufacturing specifications
• Reviews and confirms all product specifications, disseminates information to team and outside packagers as required
• Maintains reprint correction file and works closely with team members as needed on reprint corrections for titles with corrections
• Checks proofs for accuracy, distributes to team members, and returns proofs to vendor as per schedule
• Distributes advance approvals to team, informs vendors to ship upon approvals, notifies warehouse, and sends products to authors as required
• Monitors backlist inventory levels and reviews findings with PM on a weekly basis (reviewing title pricing, if files need moving, preparing POs, providing RAD dates to inventory, etc)
• Works closely with warehouse and inventory, arranges for drop shipments as needed
• Checks and confirms warehouse receipts
• Enters new F&P title records in PPM and updates all data in a timely manner
• Prepares and distributes reports as needed
Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills required
• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, and alert the PM as needed with manufacturing concerns
• PC computer skills, proficiency in Excel, Access, Microsoft Word, and other current business software tools
• Willingness to master additional database programs
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum three-to-five years book manufacturing experience needed, including thorough knowledge of multi-color and one-color book and component prepress and printing
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
