Blackboard Transact, the global leader in higher education learning software and campus card systems, is searching for Sr. Software Engineer. Based in Phoenix, Blackboard campus card systems are installed in America’s largest and most prestigious colleges and universities. As a Sr. Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for enhancing, and maintaining an Online Transaction Processing system in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment, and play an integral role in the success of the product delivery and quality.
Specifically, you are responsible for:
• Working with the development manager and Product Manager for SaaS applications to understand and implement new functionality for the SaaS Transaction System.
• Communicate to the manager status on support and development activities.
• Oversee, direct, assign, and review work from an offshore development team.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to the offshore teams, and collaborate with them on development efforts.
• Work closely with DevOps and Operations on the implementation and support of the system.
• Track, analyze, resolve or assign support tickets related to the SaaS applications.
• Ensure the stability, quality, and maintainability of the software.
• Analyze problems and implement solutions that trade off architectural constraints of functionality, usability, performance, reliability, and scalability
• Write and modify Java, JavaScript, and other components in a high volume transaction processing, n-tier distributed environment
• Design and implement modern RESTful APIs using best practices to support new functionality
• Design and implement modern web-based user interfaces using best practices to support new functionality
• Design and implement database schema changes and write or modify stored procedures to support new functionality
• Program and execute unit test cases in a TDD methodology
• Support application during quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and post release
• Comply with and contribute to consistent development guidelines (coding, change control, build, versioning)
• Participate in peer code reviews
Professional Qualifications
Required Skills:
• 10+ years of experience in software development
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Java
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with MySQL
• In-depth understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns.
• Advanced knowledge in the development of REST APIs using industry frameworks
• Working knowledge of major Java Frameworks
• Hands-on experience with AngularJS, jQuery, Bootstrap, or other supporting JavaScript libraries, HTML5, CSS3.
• Extensive senior level hands-on experience with Java
• Expert level understanding of writing and maintaining unit tests in a test-driven methodology using unit test frameworks
• Solid understanding of mock object frameworks
• Ability to read and understand UML including class and sequence diagrams
• 10 years of experience on a Linux operating system.
• Experience with one or more source control applications such as Git, Subversion, Perforce, or other SCC application
• Experience with one or more defect tracking applications
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills and planning skills
• Ability to understand technical requirements and decompose them into work tasks
• Fluency in written and spoken English are required, other languages a plus
• Eligibility to work in the United States
Preferred Skills:
• Experience developing applications for Amazon or other cloud platforms for large-scale, multi-tenant, enterprise systems highly desired
• Mobile development experience for iOS, Android, or Surface a plus
• Knowledge of ETL processing a plus
