Position Summary:
Serve as a key leader and visionary within the Platform Services team. The position is responsible for the identification, communication, and adoption of architecture and engineering strategies, approaches and designs that enhance Discovery’s technology platforms and improve media asset and business information visibility and availability. These strategies must also improve system support capabilities, flexibility, operational readiness, and reduce costs of the overall operation of Discovery’s global businesses.
This position will focus on providing efficient, effective and reliable information technology infrastructure with a particular focus on creating dynamic solutions across all infrastructure elements that will support and enhance the global business and technology operations of Discovery.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting the development and evolution of standard designs for network, server, storage, middleware, application and database systems that provide highly effective, efficient and reliable technology services
• Managing the planning, assignment, tracking, reporting, and overall progress and completion of Engineering activities and projects
• Support the growth of Discovery’s EMEA business by supporting analysis and integration of Merger and Acquisition activity as the senior Platform Services management team member in Discovery EMEA
• Budget responsibility for EMEA (typically $4m annually)
• Working closely with the Platform Operations Team to address their operation needs, and to effectively support the hand off from design to deployment and to support operational problem resolution when needed
• Foster relationships with key business stakeholders and leaders to ensure we are identifying innovative areas of technology investment and not just focusing on IT for IT’s sake
• Researching, clarifying, educating, and documenting the potential impacts of emerging technologies on Discovery application systems and platform services.
• Develop and support the career growth and technical development of direct reports, providing constructive feedback and fostering a positive work culture
Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience managing technically and geographically diverse engineering teams
• Experience managing a large budget, experience managing multiple vendors.
• Strong knowledge of information technology and engineering terminology, best practices, tools, and technology.
• Strong client interface, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to work at both the management level and provide hands-on support.
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent initiatives - with varying levels of priority – and to produce deliverables on-time and within budget.
• Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
• Supervisory experience including project management experience.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Experience performing process engineering and knowledge of all phases of systems development lifecycles.
• Positive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, good problem-solving skills, self-starter, self-motivated, team player.
• Willingness to accept varying levels of responsibility in support of projects and initiatives.
• Ability to follow project through to completion.
• Must have the legal right to work in the EU
