Overview and Responsibilities
The Sr Engineer - Virtualization is primarily responsible for providing virtual infrastructure related services for enterprise applications for on-premise, hybrid, and converged systems. This position will report into the Senior Director of Virtual Server Infrastructure and will have initial responsibilities emphasizing virtualization technologies such as vmware, kvm, and Amazon AWS.
Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:
• Introduce new technologies or enhance existing technology to transform existing capabilities and services
• Work with Sr. Engineers to design, engineer, and implement virtualization solutions
• Document engineering solutions and SOPs such that services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner
• Provide expertise to the team in the areas of virtualization as needed
• Provide L3 engineering and problem resolution support for critical issues
• Design, architecture and deployment of technology infrastructure to deliver systems and services with high availability and reliability
• Ensuring that policies, procedures and standards are being followed
• Coordinates work with other IT team members to deliver systems and services
• Participates actively in the planning of IT Infrastructure strategy to meet the business goals of the company
• Contributes to technical projects of Sr. Engineers and management
• Confers with and advises peers and IT Infrastructure management on technical problems, priorities, and methods
• Deploys and installs technological enhancements and infrastructure systems under the direction of Sr. Engineers and management
• Actively involved in the development of virtualization roadmap and strategy
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
• Acts as escalation from L2 to analyze and resolve problems associated with virtualization and all related infrastructure
• Works under direction from Lead Engineers and IT management
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline
• 5+ years of prior similar duties and experience or familiarity with virtualization technologies
• Minimum 3 years management and administration of complex and heterogeneous environments
• Advanced knowledge and experience with VMware vCenter/ESXi (Design/Build/Operations)
• Advanced knowledge of integrated converged stack infrastructure & hyper-convergence platforms (Cisco UCS/vBlock/Nuanix/etc.)
• Foundational knowledge of Microsoft file systems, Operating Systems, and Applications (Active Directory/DFS/Server 2012/Office)
• Foundational knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, etc.
• Foundational knowledge of Linux systems preferably with Redhat, CentOS, and Ubuntu
• Working knowledge of tool sets such as vSphere, PowerCLI, vRealize Operations Manager, Solarwinds
• Datacenter migration methods and disaster recovery implementations*Experience in managing solution lifecycles (design, POC, deploy, operate, migrate)
• Experience working with server teams to provision solutions in heterogeneous Operating System environments including MS Windows Server 2008R2/2012, Linux, and MSSQL/Oracle clusters.
• Experience and Strong understanding of IT Project Management
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be capable of writing proposals or basic project plans, acting as a vendor liaison, and making presentations to customers, client audiences or professional peers
Additional Qualifications
• Experience in Media and Entertainment
• Scripting experience desired (PowerShell/WMI/Shell)
• VMware VCP5+ certified (datacenter, cloud or networking)
• Amazon AWS certified (Solutions Architect or SysOps Admin)
• CCNA/CCNP certified is a plus
• Knowledge of Cisco UCS and Fabric Interconnects
• Knowledge of large VMWare deployments
• Knowledge of Cloud Storage: Hybird, Public, Private
• Strong knowledge of virtualization market landscape and dynamics
• Strong knowledge in server lifecycle management
• Experience working in service delivery organizations such as a carrier or hosting company
• Experience working with both technical and non-technical clients
• Experience working with offshore team
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Basic understanding of ITIL and ServiceNow
• Experience with supporting large, complex and heterogeneous system and network installations
• Basic understanding of networking and distributed computing environments
• Basic understanding of network routing, switching and network security principles
• Capable of working closely with IT management
• Excellent planning and coordination skills
• Resourceful and have great troubleshooting skills
