You are an experienced and passionate engineer who will drive online safety innovation across our properties. You will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of innovative software engineering solutions to make the Internet a safer place for everyone. You will help protect users at Internet scale. If you are excited about the overall lifecycle of a safety product - building, coding, testing, launching and learning, Yahoo is the place to be.
Your Day
• Engage with Yahoo product, Customer Care, Legal, policy, and security teams
• Design, develop, code and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products; revise and refine as required
• Participate in development of project timelines, implementation design specifications, system flow diagrams, documentation, testing and ongoing support of systems
• Recommend modifications to processes and procedures, and contribute to best practices, architecture, and implementations
• Promote and solicit ideas within project teams to protect our users from bad actors
• Develop innovative solutions to combat child exploitation, account hijacking, and account abuse online
What you bring
• A passion for protecting users and making the Internet a safer place for everyone
• Solutions development in C, C++, Java, PHP, client/serverside JavaScript, Python, or Perl
• Must possess excellent written communication skills and the proven ability to understand and present complex technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences
• Comfortable with ambiguity, and a self-starter capable of interfacing with engineering, policy, legal, and product teams
• Familiarity with database-style data storage and retrieval mechanisms, such as MySQL, or with big-data solutions such as Splunk, Hadoop, Pig, and Oozie
• Experience with machine learning, distributed file systems, or TCP/IP development
This role can be based in Sunnyvale or San Francisco, CA
