The Finance department of Discovery Network plays a fundamental part in achieving the vision and targets set for the business. An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious self-driven individual to join the team and work together with a dynamic finance department constantly facing challenges resulting from the expansion of regions.
The role will ensure the accurate recording and reporting of the financial transactions and manage month end duties including maintaining monthly accruals summary, reconciling key account lines as well as conducting variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year.
The successful candidate will also be involved in budgeting and forecasting process and will take the lead role in relation to facilitating statutory and internal audit. They should also demonstrate strong Excel skills and confidence using financial systems.
The successful candidate will build effective and credible relationship with the senior Management of Turkey office, and must have an appetite to drive this role forward.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with third party accounting firm in Turkey for general accounting matters.
• Ensure all accounting records are accurate and handle the month-end close processes and time-table.
• Maintain the monthly accruals summary for Turkey and follow up on adjustments post monthly closing.
• Oversee and review the reconciliation of all relevant ledger accounts in order to ensure all accruals and adjustment entries have been passed correctly by outsource accounting firm.
• Liaise on day to day basis with the central teams in London, Warsaw and US to ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
• Review the monthly upload packs from third party accounting firm in Turkey and investigate unusual variances.
• Upload monthly forecast for Turkey to the Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC) module for SAP.
• Upload forecast and budget into Enterprise Performance Measurement (EPM) and SAP.
• Manage the accuracy of the accounts payable and receivables in order to make timely collections and payments.
• Co-ordinate the monthly payment schedules, track vendor invoices and ensure accuracy of payments.
• Prepare monthly actual and year end cash flow projections of Turkish legal entities.
• Accompany internal and external audits and support in the preparation of financial annual statements, preparation of management commentary, accrual schedules and monitoring and reviewing of key deliverables such as transfer pricing and tax calculations (if any).
• Monitoring, reviewing and managing control procedures overall revenue and expenditure including reviewing commercial contracts for their financial impact.
• Control month close process for P&L relevant transactions according to US GAAP and perform detailed analysis and commentary for inclusion in monthly management reporting packs to local and corporate teams.
• Identify and control financial and operational risks.
• Support the business by involvement in ad-hoc projects as and when required.
Requirements:
• University degree (in related fields, i.e. Business Administration/Economics).
• Significant experience in a similar role.
• Audit experience is an asset – Big4 preferred.
• Professional certification (CPA) is an asset.
• Familiarity of local tax and legal regulations.
• Solid understanding of Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC) and SAP.
• Fluent in English.
• Good understanding of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act.
• Able to handle pressure within a changing and fast paced media environment.
• Excellent prioritization skills, ability to work across different cross functional teams.
• Strong individual with excellent oral and written communication, articulate, detail oriented & eager to learn.
• Good work ethic and a dedication to the highest work quality and job excellence.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team.
• Media industry experience is preferred, but not essential.
