Summary of role:
Act as part of Business Partnering team to provide financial support the Technology Operations function to drive planning and overall performance, which has a budget of approximately £135m Opex and £27m Capex
Main activities/responsibilities:
• Support the Finance Director and act as a business partner and advisor to the Technology Operations team, advising on financial matters and ensuring delivery of business and operational objectives
• Support the Finance Director in providing insight and analysis to the business to aid forward looking decision making
• Oversight of Opex monthly results and KPIs and informed and insightful commentary thereon
• Oversight of all Project Opex and Capex monthly actuals and analysing performance versus target.
• Highlight key risks and opportunities within Technology Operations function and providing insights
• Support decisions on project and portfolio investments, ensuring they are measured against financial targets
• Own the budgeting process for internal and external labour, and Project Opex and Capex.
• Support Technology Operations team on all budget transfers from other Pearson entities ensuring smooth transition and clear understanding of the financial impacts of transfers.
• Identify and address operational improvement and cost opportunities. Contribute and support to transformation initiatives as required.
• Develop and prepare financial business cases supporting Technology Operations with support from the finance shared service centre (PFS).
• Work collaboratively with PFS to deliver key reporting, planning and forecasting processes providing accurate and timely future facing data on which to base decisions
• Understand the businesses regulatory and audit requirements and ensure they are adhered to
• Consistent and extensive collaboration within Finance and across Pearson
Expected Results:

• Effective involvement of PFS in all relevant processes
• Successful usage and optimisation of The Enabling Programme (TEP)
• Operating model and new ways of working implemented across Finance
• Operational improvements and cost opportunities identified and realised
• Strong collaboration with the PFS
• Improved forecasting and planning efficiency and accuracy
• Leverage of analytics tools to focus organisation on value-added activities
• Utilise full usage of UK Oracle and Hyperion systems
Qualifications and experience required:
• Qualified Accountant with demonstrable experience in management accounting role
• Fluent English speaker
• Experience working in a multi-national matrix organization.
• Strong understanding of materiality and ability to prioritize across competing agendas
• Understanding of Capex and project accounting.
• Ability to effectively partner senior Technology Operations leadership team
• Ability to identify business risks and implementation of tactics to mitigate
• Understanding of financial control, business performance management and process optimization and experience of working in more than one of these areas.
• Awareness of multiple business models and experience of working with more than one.
