The Yahoo Operations Center Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated, senior level technical operations engineer with a deep rooted passion for automation. The Operations Center team is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the stability of Yahoo’s production and corporate infrastructure 24x7x365. We are a team of highly motivated and passionate individuals that play a key role in Yahoo by coordinating operations and engineering teams to identify, triage, and resolve customer impacting incidents, verify service impact to the end users, and work alongside subject matter experts to identify root cause.
Responsibilities
• Diagram and understand complex workflows.
• Understand pain points and automation opportunities with alerts, reports, and operations workflows.
• Identify and prioritize alert automation opportunities and work with engineering teams to implement solutions.
• Understand and be able to articulate automation best practices.
• Understand the automation solutions available and be able to make recommendations on preferred solutions to engineering teams.
• Write lucid, intelligent, and logical code.
• Track work through ticketing systems and follow through to resolution.
• Design and implement software frameworks and tools to facilitate automation.
You Must Have
• BS in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 3-5 years experience in an operations environment.
• 2+ years supporting large scale unix environments.
• 2+ years of coding experience in any combination of Ruby, Perl, or Python.
• Any combination of experience with Consul, Automic, Zookeeper, Puppet, Chef, Conductor, Ansible, or other infrastructure automation tools.
• Working knowledge of Linux systems and OS internals (file systems, storage, process lifecycle, system health/performance etc).
• Working knowledge of a TCP/IP network environment.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as subversion or git.
• Working knowledge on databases (Mysql and/or NoSql)
• Working knowledge of Javascript/Node.JS and RESTful web services is a plus.
• Some experience with Jenkins (CI / CD) is a plus.
