About You:
You are a scientific leader with deep expertise in your domain. You are not afraid to tackle open-ended problems. You love making an impact on product and business. You are passionate to excel in everything you do and the ability to work effectively in high-energy, cross-functional teams. You’re not afraid to make the first move. You have demonstrated experience in managing projects and are detailed-oriented, effective in written and interpersonal communication, analytical and comfortable operating under pressure and tight deadlines. You are well experienced with the challenges of working with the scale of data and performance requirements of internet businesses such as Yahoo.
Your Day:
The Personalization Science group in Yahoo Labs division is looking for scientists to work on a broad set of real-world practical problems of massive size that have direct business impact. The successful candidate will be expected to drive innovation and lead execution in many areas across a number of potential projects in:
◦ Recommendation Systems
◦ Ranking and Information Retrieval
◦ User Behavior Understanding and Modeling
◦ Large-scale Machine Learning
◦ Online Experimental Design
◦ Context Aware Systems
Job Functions:
◦ Play a critical role in the group as a creative research scientist working at a project level.
◦ Understand and communicate effectively with internal business customers, partners, and stakeholders at each stage of a project.
◦ Think abstractly and correlate similarities between problems, methodologies, and solutions.
◦ Implement possible solutions, evaluate outcomes, and update research direction according to business goals and constraints.
◦ Follow a project through its entire lifetime from problem formulation to solution delivery.
◦ We strongly encourage our team members to stay well-informed of novel academic work and seek patents and/or publish work when appropriate.
Requirements:
◦ 5+ years academic or indsutrial experience in areas of interest listed above.
◦ Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Data Mining, IR, Statistics, AI or a related field.
◦ Demonstrated expertise and desire to work hands-on in analyzing and modeling large data sets.
◦ Strong algorithmic problem solving skills.
◦ Ability to implement solutions in Java or Python or C/C++ or Ruby etc.
◦ Effective communication skills and ability to understand business requirements.
◦ Team spirit as well as the ability to execute independently.
