Director, International Consumer Products – China/HK and Taiwan

Key point person on the China/HK and Taiwan business managing day-to-day operational tasks of the consumer products program. Generate revenue and incremental business growth for the consumer products business in China/HK and Taiwan, and strategically plan, market and increase brand equity and awareness of the MLB brand through retail promotions, advertising programs and client events. Assist in the protection of trademarks and property rights.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with Director of International Consumer Products to develop and implement strategic business plans in China/HK and Taiwan for a product portfolio featuring Apparel, Headwear, Accessories, Collectibles, Sporting Goods and Novelty accounts on an annual basis.
• Supervise the operation of MLB stores in China/HK and MLB Clubhouse stores in Taiwan, and continue to push for expanded footprints in each region.
• Manage 15-20 accounts and daily tasks associated with these accounts, and negotiate terms for amendments and renewals. Research, identify and analyze potential business partners in undeveloped categories, and prepare/present/evaluate new business proposals.
• Work with Director of International Consumer Products to develop and process contract amendments and renewals, as well as LOI’s for new business applications.
• Establish and maintain centralized system to track licensee royalty reports, accounts payable/receivable, volume estimates, revenue projections and budget spending for the account base.
• Provide regular quantitative and qualitative analyses of the business by category. Create and maintain database/presentations for completed programs and products in the region.
• Track and generate regular reports to highlight contract administration issues or non-payment issues with our Legal and Finance departments. Work with local customs authorities to expedite licensee shipments, and assist in the protection of trademarks and property rights in China/HK and Taiwan.
• Work with Director of International Consumer Products and MLB’s QC department to review all China/HK and Taiwan product and advertising submissions.
• Develop and execute customized promotions, merchandising programs including POS, client hospitality events, and special retail initiatives to support and grow key product categories. Oversee and track retail marketing and product credit budgets in China/HK and Taiwan.
• Integrate all components of the MLB International business to maximize/promote retail sales, brand exposure, market development, and broadcast and sponsorship partners.
• Manage special event licensing, concessions and on-field/clubhouse operations for any World Baseball Classic, Opening Series or All-Star Series games that take place in China/HK and Taiwan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
• Bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of experience in consumer products and brand management.
• Successfully demonstrated sales experience with an established track record in managing and developing client relationships. Established relationships with key China/HK and Taiwan-based sports and fashion retailers and manufacturers.
• Knowledge of local trademark enforcement policies and educated in local customs procedures.
• Strong quantitative analytic background, including superior Excel modeling and PowerPoint skills.
• Excellent time management, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to travel within China/HK and Taiwan throughout the year, and internationally 3-4 times per year.
