Creative Director, Amazon Go
DESCRIPTION

Who You Are
We’re looking for a hands-on Creative Director to oversee and shepherd our brand development for the Amazon Go food brands team. This role will lead the entire creative process in the development and evolution of our food brands and direct compelling and memorable design outputs to solve business needs and support brand building. The Creative Director must be a proven people leader with solid expertise in print, packaging and content development. The Creative Director will oversee and execute brand strategy and voice for established and new brands across a wide range of touch points including website, packaging, marketing collateral, advertising and content.
This role will direct an internal creative team, external agencies and freelancers. The Creative Director is someone who thrives within a fast-paced environment, is always up for the next creative challenge, and enjoys being collaborative and hands on. The Creative Director will collaborate with stakeholders to drive innovative ideas that resonate, be the voice of brand excellence, and continuously championing the brand across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure all touchpoints are on brand, coherent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice across all channels online, social media, email, point of purchase, mobile, video, print and retail.
• Lead creation of all online and offline design efforts (e.g. retail packaging, website experience, digital campaigns, print advertising, marketing collateral, content, etc.).
• Manage and mentor the internal creative team. Lead the entire creative process, from concept to QA & press checks.
• Collaborate with external agency partners and freelancer network, managing process, work, budgets and personnel.
• Direct the creative function ensuring that the team, culture, capabilities, tools and processes to support Amazon Go’s objectives. Partner with the Group Creative Director to ensure the food brands team operates in a highly efficient manner while maintaining the highest quality standards.
• Drive continual improvement of creative department’s quality, thinking and capabilities.
• Champion innovation by introducing new ideas and inspiration to the team and vendors.
• Work with stakeholders and producers to oversee they design and photography budgets.
• Participate in post-mortem reporting, including evaluation of process and infrastructure.
• Get into the weeds on storytelling, shining a light on how great experiences come to life and shepherding through test-and-learn best practices to drive the business forward.
Content Responsibilities
• Understand the positioning of the Amazon Go brand; become the subject matter expert for assigned product brands/categories and new services.
• Own copywriting that spans headlines, advertising, and retail signage-while adhering to an authentic brand voice
• Work closely with marketing, design leads, and program managers to develop creative strategy, positioning, and an editorial content calendar across a variety of channels
• Develop and oversee brand voice for select products and services
• Write voice guides and build master copy docs to influence downstream channels; collaborate with other writers, creatives, and marketers to ensure omni-channel alignment (Digital and In-Store)
• Partner with culinary product developers to brainstorm item names
• Consult with cross-functional design teams (online marketing, UX, etc.) and outside agencies to help ensure we articulate a clear and consistent voice in the expression of our brands
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 8+ years of creative experience with a minimum 4+ years of managerial experience in a design or creative department, and 4+ years of relevant consumer brand experience preferred. Design or brand agency experience a plus.
• Must love to write and have the ability to understand and internalize a brand voice and use it to spin out words that will cover a vast range of topics
• Experience writing both short- and long-form copy across multiple online and offline marketing channels
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to gracefully defend your creative decisions to executive management
• Experience designing and directing the development of large-scale brand identity programs, brand creative assets and experiences for world-class global brands, and large, integrated cross-channel campaigns a must.
• Primary bias towards brand storytelling with an exceptional portfolio of groundbreaking work
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Able to seamlessly move across conversations at all levels of the organization, from field marketing to the C-Suite.
• Background in brand, broadcast, digital or print production. Must have retail experience.
• Strong industry knowledge and connections at both agencies and production houses.
• Bachelors Degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have experience with retail brand development, including naming experience, and in-store communication materials design, plus:
• A passion for food, and experience designing for food brands
• An expert understanding of the trends in retail and food brands. Has a love for advertising/marketing, keeps pace with it, and loves talking about it and champions smart brands
• Ability to think spatially, understanding how a brand is consistently expressed and maintained in a physical and digital environment
