Global Energy Management Specialist
About the Role
WeWork is currently seeking an energy management professional who will work on the Sustainability & Wellbeing (S&W) team, in close collaboration with the Operations and Mechanical Engineering teams, to establish and maintain clear and industry-leading standards and operations for the responsible purchase, use and tracking of energy in our global portfolio. Notably, this role will be more focused on energy procurement, energy tracking, and creative financing, and less focused on driving specific energy efficiency standards and programs (the latter efforts are driven by other internal partners to this individual).
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
• Report to the Head of Sustainability & Wellbeing
• Identify opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint and reduce the cost of WeWork’s energy supply portfolio, and work across the company to take advantage of those opportunities
• Lead efforts to blend traditional procurement with WeWork’s renewable energy goals
• Manage energy service contracts and other creative financing programs to reduce WeWork’s carbon footprint with minimal capital outlay
• Develop and manage program for accurate & timely global energy data collection
• Stay informed of regulatory and technical developments in the energy industry
• Analyze energy consumption data, develop insights to inform energy efficiency & procurement initiatives
• Train and educate global teams on relevant energy-related concepts and practices
• Lead and support various energy projects as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s Degree preferred, ideally in Energy/Environmental Management, Mechanical Engineering, Building Science or a similarly technical and engineering-minded field.
• 5+ years of related experience, focusing on energy purchasing, renewable energy, rebates and incentives, and carbon accounting.
• Experience with energy efficiency programs for commercial buildings, especially commissioning and retro-commissioning and M&V programs.
• Experience at representing business interests to the leadership teams of potential suppliers, utilities, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
• Experience with communication including communicating commercial, regulatory, market, and contractual details to all organizational levels
• In-depth knowledge of energy markets, especially renewable energy markets, policies, voluntary corporate programs, and regulations.
• Ideally, experience implementing an RE100 commitment, either as a consultant or internal champion.
• Strong energy data analysis skills and experience, including a mastery of Microsoft Excel and large datasets
• Strong analytical skills and ability to analyse and interrogate complex data.
• Experience of working collaboratively with stakeholders providing guidance and advice, with an ability to engage and influence others effectively.
• Experience successfully interacting with professionals working in manual trades, custodial services and other hands-on jobs.
• Ability to influence and to work cross-functionally in support of sustainability team objectives and goals.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and outstanding relationship building skills at all levels inside and outside the organization.
• Results oriented with an ability to operate multiple projects. A self-starter with superior organizational skills.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and effectively manage and meet multiple, simultaneous deadlines with minimum assistance while maintaining a sense of humor.
