About the role
Are you passionate about design? Do you love brand strategy? Are you obsessed with the intersection of the two? Do you have the creativity, vision and expertise needed to help Zillow become a truly iconic and beloved brand?
Zillow Group is seeking an experienced Brand Design Director to lead our growing Seattle-based brand design team. You will help bring the Zillow brand to life across every aspect of the business - from setting the creative vision for the brand, to art direction across multiple marketing channels, to working with UX to create a visual identity system for our physical experiences, to evolving our brand guidelines. Additionally, you will oversee design endeavors in support of various Zillow Group B2B and internal/corporate marketing initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience conceptualizing, designing and producing brand communications and campaigns. You are a brand and communications designer by trade, fluent in many mediums and particularly attuned to the digital, social and multimedia landscape. You see the big picture, but also know that great brands and great design comes down to execution and the details.
Here’s what you’ll do:
• Grow, lead and inspire the brand design team and manage their creative output.
• Promote continual creative improvement and actively contribute to a culture of creative excellence and transparency.
• Partner with VP of Brand Marketing and ZG Studio Leads to set the long term creative vision for the Zillow Brand.
• Elevate the look-and-feel of the brand by establishing a visual design language that brings this vision to life across marketing and product to create a more powerful, holistic and ultimately more compelling brand experience.
• Lead the brand design team in the thoughtful implementation of this vision across a variety of projects, channels and platforms.
• Partner with the UX design team to extend this vision to the physical product experience.
• Develop brand and visual style guides to allow us – and others – to implement this new visual language with greater ease, speed and consistency.
• Serve as a steward of the brand in the application of this visual language across the whole of the brand experience.
• Be able to speak fluently to design choices and opportunities and how they tie back to business objectives and related strategies.
• Lead key projects and initiatives directly, contributing to the team’s creative output while also using them as teaching opportunities for the rest of the team.
• Help build a network of external creative partners inclusive of freelance designers, illustrators, animators and photographers.
• Collaborate with marketing leads and other key stakeholders on design projects and marketing campaigns for Zillow, Zillow Group (B2B) and other internal/corporate initiatives.
About the team
Zillow Group Studios is the creative and production arm of the Brand Marketing Team within Zillow Group. We provide a range of creative services spanning advertising, content, design, photography, video, collateral and social assets to help internal clients meet their business goals.

Who you are
• 10+ years’ experience at a creative/branding agency or design-led consumer brand.
• 5+ years’ experience in a creative leadership role.
• Strong strategic decision-making skills and the ability to nimbly weigh business goals alongside creative goals. Ability to easily articulate how and why different design choices ties back to the business goals and related strategies.
• Highly collaborative, driven by creative excellence and the belief that great creative can be a catalyst for even greater business results.
• A strong portfolio that showcases the ability to harness design-led thinking and human insight to drive effective communications across a variety of media types – all while maintaining a clear brand and campaign throughline.
• Familiarity working with video production and a keen sense of the value and role design can bring to the video production process. Illustration and animation experience a plus.
• A highly organized self-starter, skilled at bringing people together and working productively in a cross-functional team environment (e.g., design, content, production, PM).
• Leadership level written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to inspire and motivate creative teams while winning the trust and confidence of internal clients and business partners.
• Must truly love this stuff.
