Job Description
As an expert in the field of user research and e-Commerce usability, the Director, Usability will lead multiple user insight projects across various insight platforms (Usertesting.com, Decibel Insights, Clicktale) and seamlessly translate findings into actionable opportunities. The right candidate will be creative and strategic in their approach to research, highly collaborative and obsessed with creating delightful customer experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Usability will be responsible for leading and conducting all user experience research, analyzing real-time user behavior and working with every department to improve usability and conversion in acquisition, retention or engagement. This includes:
• Work with various stakeholders across the organization to understand business needs and translate them into clear user experience research objectives.
• Make recommendations about which usability methods to use to answer questions about users and design directions based on projects' needs, goals and constraints.
• Conduct user research, identify pain points, and develop user profiles across multiple consumer platforms.
• Manage usability initiatives end to end (schedule, plan, run, view and analyze sessions) to address business questions, understand current user behavior and uncover unmet needs.
• Work with the UX team to evaluate prototype experiences.
• Help the teams interpret and understand user feedback and provide input for requirements, design documents and QA test cases
• Lead ongoing usability and customer experience analysis across our portfolio of brands and products by synthesizing data and delivering results.
• Communicate findings and recommendations in compelling and actionable ways.
• Instill best practices for research, provide guidance on how to meet usability requirements, and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
• Keep up-to-date with the current trends, tools and technology
• Contribute to our UI guidelines and its maintenance.
Qualifications
• Possess a core understanding of e-commerce, web design fundamentals, and online marketing strategy and tactics.
• Expert at understanding the traffic drivers core to online conversion and sales and the principles of user design and customer experience.
• Experience with an extensive variety of Usability research tools and methods (especially user-centered design processes) and involvement in running a variety of insight tests simultaneously.
• Hands-on success in evaluating innovative websites or applications
• Ability to analyze the scope of a project and develop an appropriate usability test plan based on the available resources.
• Proficiency with modern data collection techniques and tools; familiarity with standard usability lab tools and practices
• Proficiency with qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques
• Expert knowledge in current web standards
• Proven track record of consistently producing deliverables that are well-written and contain helpful information, providing solid and actionable recommendations.
• Ability to iterate designs and solutions quickly, efficiently and intelligently.
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and stakeholders.
• Highly analytical with the ability to read between the lines and interpret data in a way that leads to actionable strategies.
• Be willing to help teammates, share knowledge and experience with them, and learn from them.
• Proven ability to work independently, multitask and meet deadlines.
• Experience using Decibel Insights is a plus
• BA/BS or MA/MS in behavioral science or closely related discipline.
• 8+ years as a usability engineer, user experience designer, user researcher, or other equivalent title in software design and development.
• 5+ years' experience working with digital products in an innovation, brand, management consultancy, or digital agency.
• Qualifying fields include but are not limited to: Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Interface Design, or Consumer Insight Research.
• User experience certification programs is a plus
