This is a newly created leadership role within the new UX Design Operations initiative for our Global User Experience Design group. This leader should be passionate about building the right environments, processes and tools ensuring that Expedia’s global, cross-discipline product teams can design and deliver high quality solutions to our travelers and partners quickly and efficiently.
You will define, develop and own the operational processes for Expedia’s iterative end-to-end product design solutions, interfacing across the entire population of product and engineering teams. You will work closely with key partners and stakeholders, including cross-functional product teams made up of engineering, product management, business and UX designers to deliver the workflow, tools and measurements that define how we do our work of designing and implementing our digital products from concept discovery to delivery. You will be instrumental in influencing and activating our design team continues to scale across businesses, organizational lines and international geographies.
Responsibilities
• Build and drive the implementation of agile product design discovery and delivery frameworks, workflows and processes that integrate seamlessly with engineering and product methods
• Partner with product, UX and engineering leadership to understand strategic investments and team roadmaps to help balance our portfolio of UX design talent and workloads across the organization and our locations
• Assess current design systems and tools and develop solutions that will enable teams to deliver high-quality, coherent and consistent design more efficiently
• Provide methods and measurements for assuring the quality, effectiveness and speed-to-market of global design patterns and systems across our experiences
• Build a scalable practice around designing with velocity and accuracy, optimizing to build consistency across a complex global environment
• Examine and document work as it is done today, define the workflows and then create relevant KPI’s to create repeatability, speed and quality across both the engineering and the product team
• Effectively influence and implement change across a large complex global matrix, able to communicate with diverse teams including product leaders, design teams and the broader engineering organization.
• Ability to hire, motivate and retain a team of high performing design operations professionals.
• Help plan and deliver horizontal projects across team and organizational lines
Ideal Experience
To be successful, you must be a well-rounded design thinker, empathetic to the needs of designers and the travelers we design for, but passionate about delivery and grounded in logic, structure and process of how to do it well and consistently at scale.
• You have more than 12 years professional experience with UX design for digital interfaces
• At least 10 years’ experience leading complex projects and/or leading product teams and design teams
• You have a track record of successfully navigating ambiguity, reacting quickly and comfortably to change, and driving clearly defined actions and decisions
• Proven experience with fundamental best in class user-centered, usability, and interaction design principles
• You have demonstrated ability to conceive, document and evangelize solutions
• Advanced understanding and awareness of design systems and the impact of applying them practically in dynamic environments
• Advanced proficiency and understanding of industry tools and techniques, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, or, even better, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript or other libraries
