Job Description
The Front End Core platform team for Mobile, Web and API, creates building blocks powering the features and user interfaces of Ancestry sites and apps, as well as ownership of the SDK for API Gateway functionality. Our mission is to make development as easy and fast as possible, without compromising quality.
The team owns common components that help other teams build experiences for Ancestry customers; they build leverage for Ancestry employees to be successful, and own some shared products like global navigation that span across all of Ancestry. This work creates economies of scale for Ancestry product development teams.
As theDirector of Product for Front-end Platform Components and Services, you will partner closely with engineering and lead a team of product managers, engineers, architects and UX designers to create and deliver cohesive, seamless user experiences across our Ancestry products, and deliver the library of common components that make these experiences possible.
You will also deliver customer value for both internal and external customers of the Ancestry API Gateway by collaborating closely with engineering to understand and define requirements for an API SDK that delivers functionality such as authentication, aggregation and routing.
You should be comfortable working with many different business and product teams and can break down and solve complex problems. This position requires high communication and collaboration skills. You should be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner and be comfortable interacting with executives and other stakeholder groups to build consensus, define an approach and rationale for prioritization, and communicate project status, findings, and escalations on a regular basis.
What you will do:
• Act as the product owner for all experiences related to our Front End mobile and web components and API gateway and aggregation layer
• Work with internal and external customers to drive the roadmap and prioritization of requirements in your domain
• Work with your engineering partner to prioritize and allocate resources against a variety of initiatives touching many product teams at Ancestry
• Work in close collaboration with product, engineering and UX design partners, as well as other scrum teams
Qualifications
Who you are:
• Obsessive customer focus
• 5+ years experience in product management leadership roles building and launching successful mobile and web products, preferably in a platform role
• Preference for experience building Front End core platform products from version 0
• Strong technical background, either from academic, engineering, or hands-on product development experience, especially API product management experience
• Ability to effectively gather and prioritize user requirements from disparate sources, going beyond users requests to get to key user needs, and the ability to rationalize across and resolve stakeholder differences
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively and persuasively present to all levels of the organization
• An ability to drive consensus and resolve stakeholder differences through data-driven analysis, influence, and relationship building skills, especially in cross-functional and executive settings
• Strong collaboration skills with internal UX and Engineering teams as well as external customers in an agile environment
