Position Summary
Job Summary:
We are looking for a strong Director of Software Engineering based in Austin to help lead our rapidly expanding engineering team. You will help build and scale our product suite that helps redefine the products and technologies small to medium sized businesses use to compete on the Internet. In addition to helping us make informed decisions about technology, you will also help these entrepreneurs optimize their businesses. This is a senior role with a blend of technical skills, management and strategy. You lead from the front and help other developers around you to grow. You are equally comfortable debating about priorities with Product Management as determining which technologies we should leverage to build a scalable product.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee multiple software engineering feature teams
• Collaborate with feature teams and other leaders to ensure success of strategic business projects
• Constantly iterate on and improve the development process
• Deliver a clear vision, direction and standards for the engineering organization and ensure their compliance
• Foster and maintain close working relationships with Product, QA and UX
• Provide career development, coaching and performance management for engineers, team leads and engineering managers
• Participate in the interview process to bring new talent into the engineering organization

• Work on issues that impact development success and address future concepts, products or technologies
• Establish transparency by broadly communicating architecture and strategy goals while ensuring their compliance
• Conduct regular one on ones. Provide useful feedback to your direct reports, peers, managers and others in the company
• Clearly communicate business goals to our engineers and keep them at the focus of how we build products. Ensure engineering is always adding business value and communicate this value to business leaders
• Efficiently prioritize tech-debt / pay-down projects as well as larger strategic initiatives such as versioned deployments and deployment frequency
Qualifications:
• Strong ability to motivate and inspire your teams to excel in all aspects of engineering
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent and 8+ years in a comparable role defining and developing innovative software
• At least 5 years of experience directly managing, mentoring and hiring software engineers
• Previous experience managing full-stack development teams that are developing modern interactive web applications with demonstrated hands-on experience
• Ability to spot and attract amazing talent and while also having the passion to be a mentor
• Aptitude to juggle multiple priorities while executing, setting and defining solid goals
• Problem solver with a mindfulness for ease of use and simplicity
• Experience working with large-scale production systems, data platforms / warehouses
• Knowledge of industry best practices using object oriented design and design patterns, being mindful of sustainability and supportability in everything you do
• Capacity to bring clarity to problems through structured thinking and effective communication
